[UNRELATED] Youtube problem with NoScript: audio doubled
Posted: Wed May 09, 2012 8:42 pm

When I watch some videos on youtube (especially newly posted ones - e.g.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wNMbE7OzL-g or
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hKuWaM87_Ew ), after some seconds, a second audio track starts playing. If I pause the video, the video and the original track also pause, but that second track goes on anyway, until I change page or close the tab.
That makes it almost impossible to view a video.
I'm using Seamonkey 2.9.1, with NoScript 2.4; I have this problem both on Windows and Linux.
Disabling NoScript apparently solves the issue. On the other hand, "allow scripts globally" didn't help. Could that be a problem with NoScript? Should I change some setting? Has anyone else had that problem? The search didn't help...
TIA

Unable to reproduce, in both the https and http versions of your first link, on Firefox 12.0 with NS 2.4.1rc3.
Also tried on (obsolete) Fx 3.6.28, to test on a non-HTML5-compatible browser.
No double sound tracks; no problem with pause and play buttons.
Most likely is an extension conflict or profile corruption.
Please create a clean
profile from scratch. Install only NoScript, leaving all the defaults.
Does the problem still exist? If not, NoScript is not the culprit.
Try adding back your extensions, one at a time, until you find the one that causes the issue.
Then remove all the others, pairing only the suspected one with NoScript, to confirm that the other one is the issue.
If the problem is solved even with all add-ons reinstalled, then the previous profile was probably corrupt. Problem solved.
Let us know, thanks.
Edit: The only scripts required to view YouTube videos are youtube.com and ytimg.com, both in the
Default Whitelist.

It appears to be a conflict with AutoPager (
https://addons.mozilla.org/it/seamonkey ... src=search )
No addons or any other addons -> no problem; I can see the video normally.
NoScript only -> video plays OK
AutoPager only -> video plays OK
NoScript+AutoPager -> double audio issue
Perhaps, AutoPager calls some script from some other site and that is what NoScript blocks.
I've removed all rules concerning YouTube from AutoPager, and I have no problems any more; on the other hand, the other extension was useful because it allows many more comments to be displayed on the page.

From what you describe, sounds like it is actually loading another clip, & the audio portion of that second clip you are hearing?

I tried searching their Support Forum, but couldn't find anything. Suggest you post this issue there.
Since NoScript would only block, not add, and the site works fine with NS alone, I'm going to mark this as Unrelated for now.
Please let us know what their support tells you, thanks.
(And tell them to get rid of the spam. A topic on the home page was a spam title.)

I got the same problem here, FF13 Beta 4, Win7, Newest Flash Player...
with No Script and Autopager activated simultaneously, the audio track on YT plays doubled.
with either one of the extensions deactivated, no more issues...
that sucks because both addons are awesome!

Since we haven't heard back from the OP, could *you* please post the issue at Autopager support, and let us know the response?
Surely they can fix whatever is triggering NoScript's valuable protection... Thanks.
Double Audio Streams on Youtube

NoScript is somehow responsible for youtube videos having a double audio track in firefox 12.0 for me now. If I load a video on youtube then pause it audio continues in the background like there is a two of the same page loaded. I've gone through all my plugins and found Noscript to be the source. I don't recall ever having this issue before, and I've been using noscript for about 2 years now. Today I installed updated version of utorrent and it installed some stupid utorrent search bar which i immediately removed. That is the only change to my browser recently. I don't recall this issue having appeared before the utorrent search bar though. Is there a way that it could have affected the way Noscript is working for me?
I've tried allowing all scripts on youtube to see if it fixed anything, and it didn't. All scripts allowed and I get dual audio. Disable noscript and i get one audio track.

Third time in two weeks that this has been posted and answered. Please take a moment to search the forum (box in the upper right) for your keywords, and you'll have your answer very quickly.
Thanks for your cooperation, and for your support of NoScript.

I was just about to say what Tom already said, why are people double posting about this stuff, its been asked and answered and it is user error, nothing to do with NoScript. I am merging these to reduce the littering and hopefully drive home a bit the point of SEARCH before you post.

Thanks for the info. That's what I had asked for a couple of times -- for someone to ask Autopager about the issue. Glad they fixed it.
btw, when posting the link, you don't need to include "&sid... (the numbers that follow)"
That string of numbers identifies your unique login to the site for that session.
I don't see a big risk now, since you've surely long since ended that session. (And a new login would produce a new SessionID, or "sid".)
Plus, the attacker trying to ride on your session would likely have to obtain, or see, your cookies. But there are some attacks that do that.
But as a general rule for maximum safety, don't include &sid or anything that follows.
