[FIXED]Space when starting FF with Noscript with full-screen

Post by noscript-user »

Hola:

I have a problem with NoScript and Firefox 12 (Windows).
Every time I start FF with fullscreen, there is a white space at the bottom (see below the picture). This space vanishes after resizing the window.
This happens only, if I start in full screen.
Without NoScript (deinstalled) there is no problem.
I guess, this is the space, that NoScript uses for the Notice-bar, that I have deactivated.

Thanks for your answers and please excuse my bad English.

Your English is fine. :)

I can reproduce that at some sites, but not at others. At Firefox Help, the space appears to be a placeholder for a web bug that is sent if script is blocked, or placed by script if allowed.

At https://www.grc.com/x/ne.dll , I don't see this issue, nor while using Yahoo Mail, regardless of whether script is allowed.
I do not have this issue at ard.de or at its redirect to sportschau.de.

I assume you do not have the Add-on Bar enabled?

This happens at *all* sites?
If I understand you correctly, clicking F11 twice to make screen small, then large, eliminates the space?

Thank you very much for your answer.

I have this issue already, when I am starting FF. This space appears on my start page google.de with the maximized window.
If I understand you correctly, clicking F11 twice to make screen small, then large, eliminates the space?
That's right, pressing F11 two time or clicking on the browser button reduce and afterwards again on the button maximize solves the problem too, until the next start of FF.
When I start FF as a normal window (not maximized), the problem does not exist.

Deinstalling of NoScript solves this problem, but I would like to keep this add-on.
I assume you do not have the Add-on Bar enabled?
You are right, the Add-on Bar is disabled.

Does unchecking Notifications|Place message at bottom help?

Thank you for your answer, but unfortunately your hint "unchecking Notifications|Place message at bottom" had no success.

Yours sincerely

This has been happening to me as well and it only started once the last recent release of Firefox was available. I've noticed it happens upon every fresh start of Firefox and only goes away afterward once I access the add-on bar either directly via menu or keyboard shortcut and then disable it again through the same action. I've noticed hitting the Alt key which brings up the normal menu on Firefox also causes it to go away as well.

I'd like to reproduce this, so that I can tell Giorgio my exact settings, etc., but I'm afraid that I don't know how to start Firefox in Full Screen mode, having never cared to do so. I find nothing in the GUI settings, nothing relevant in about:config, and as usual, Firefox "Help" is .... no help. :?

Is it a command-line switch?

Anyone, tell me how to do this, and I'll investigate and make a full report to Giorgio, thanks.

@ Giorgio:

I've always left Notifications|Show message about blocked scripts unchecked completely, for several years now.
My first reply was with that setting. (unchecked)

Edit to add: @ noscript-user: There is a known phpBB issue with long links being truncated (broken). To protect them, wrap them in [url] tags, by selecting the text and clicking URL in the top bar. I fixed your direct link to the picture. :)

Hola:

Thanks for your answers.

My description "with full screen" was a little inexact. The correct description is "Space when starting FF with Noscript with a maximized window".

I have made a portable version of FF 12 (Windows) for you.
The only add-on is Noscript (with my settings) and the start page http://www.ard.de/.

I have uploaded the zip-file, and you can download it from the following URL.
(Open the folder usuario and download the file portable_firefox_12_with_noscript.zip.)

URL: https://www.mydrive.ch/en/login
Username: noscript@Simplicissimus
Password: noscript

Please decompress the zip-file. In the folder portable_firefox_12_with_noscript you will find the exe-file FirefoxLoader.exe, that will start FF 12 in portable mode - and I hope, you will see my problem with the space at the bottom.

Thank you, that is much different. I almost always start Fx with a maximized window.
I have made a portable version of FF 12 (Windows) for you.
Thank you, but I am already running Firefox 12 in a portable version, courtesy of PortableApps.com (a great site).

So I will just set my start page to your site, ard.de, and see what happens.
I will report soon.

Add-on bar disabled, home page set to ard.de, Firefox starts in maximized window by default, NS Notifications unchecked:

Image

No white space at bottom.

In Full Screen Mode (F11):

Image

No white space at bottom.

At this time, I cannot reproduce your issue. Have I done something wrong?

This problem still exists in the latest new version of no script.

I know it.
The problem is very elusive: it doesn't happen if you install the add-on and restart immediately, but it happens on cold start, as it was related to XUL cache.
I've made several test but couldn't figure out the root cause yet, let alone a fix...

Glad you are still aware of the problem and hope you find a fix soon.
