i left my computer on (Apple G4 powerbook OS 10.5.8, Firefox 3.6.28 can't upgrade either OS or Firefox any further on this machine) - when i came back and "woke it up", went to a site and the noscript had disappeared, on other sites too. Why did it disappear, how do i get it back? Went to a site that requires me to enable java script to watch it, but i can't because i can't find no script. PS. I am a tech dummy, so please explain in "English" :) Status bar icon is checked to "show" in no script preferences - it did before, but now it doesn't, just disappeared ....

Can you please start a new thread, specifically provide your specs, OS, version, configuration (is it portable, desktop), Firefox version and so on and I'd be happy (along with many others I am sure) to walk through it and see what's what. This is a fairly old thread and been resolved, let's not mix the issues. I know you are not registered, and that's not required, so I don't want to split it and have you lose track, so I will let you just open a new thread and I will merge these posts into that when you do that.

So how do I start a new thread?
No script is gone

I have an old Apple powerbook, G4, OS 10.5.8, Firefox 3.6.28 (cannot upgrade either OS or Firefox on this machine).
Problem - i left my computer on, came back, "woke it up", went to site, noscript icon was gone, gone on other sites as well - had been there earlier. I did nothing to change settings, it had just disappeared. Where did it go, how do I get it back? Cannot view site, as need to enable java script, and now I can't, with no noscript. If I can't get icon back, do i just disable it in Firefox tools menu? Uninstall it? "Show" is checked in Noscript preferences window. PS. - am tech dummy (obviously) so please explain simply and in "plain English" so I can understand :)

Right-click any vacant area of the top bar (menu bar). Check all other bars, to make them visible. See if the icon is in one of those.
Either way, also check (on that same right-click menu) "Customize".
If the NS icon is in the Customize box, drag it to where you want it.
If it's in a toolbar where you don't want it to be, or a toolbar you'd rather not have, drag it to the Customize box, then to wherever you want it.
You can then uncheck the toolbars that you don't want to have visible (after doing the same with any other icons they contain).
In the meantime, the Windows keyboard shortcut to open NS Menu is Ctrl+Shift+S. I'm not up on Mac -- is "Command" key the equivalent of Ctrl? Try that.

OK, can't find the icon anywhere - but tried the ctrl-shift-s and that opened up a window in the upper right corner that showed what clicking on the icon used to show with options for "allow", etc. Is that what i will have to do for all my sites, now? Frankly, that is a PIA and if so I will probably disable the whole thing or uninstall it .... Too bad, I liked it ... It used to work fine, until it suddenly disappeared ....

Wait, i take that back - the only thing that shows up with the ctrl-shift-s maneuver in the little box is an option to "forbid" informaction.com", "recently blocked sites", "allow scripts globally" and "options" menu in which, under "Appearance", all "Show" boxes, except "full domains" and "full access" are checked - so no help with that either ...

NoScript Options | Appearance, is Status bar icon checked?
Otherwise, if you right-click besides, Help, then Customize..., is there a NoScript icon in there?
Drag it out & place it where you like.

Status bar icon is checked. Sorry, but i don't get this right/left click business - I have a track pad with one button on the laptop, no right/left. As for "help" and "customize", where does that show up - haven't seen either in "options" or anywhere else for that matter ..

I have a laptop with a touchpad, not a mouse, and there are two levers/buttons below it, left and right. Whatever you're using, you must have had to use the equivalent of "right-click"
sometime. Check the owner's manual, or the manufacturer's online Help/Support, for how to "right-click".
How do you get the Properties of a file on your desktop? (Standard = right-click, new menu opens, click "Properties".)
As for "help" and "customize", where does that show up - haven't seen either in "options" or anywhere else for that matter ..
therube was referring to the top bar of the Firefox browser, usually where the Address Bar (Location bar, URL entry point) is. "Help" is one of the menus there. He was saying what I said before -- find a vacant place on that bar, like, say, just to the right of the Help menu, if that's the last thing before the URL space. For me, I have Help - NoScript icon > Reload icon > Escape/Stop icon > URL bar. So, just between the Stop and the URL space. In other words, just to the left of where you type web site addresses. Should be a small space that doesn't do anything when you put the mouse pointer there.
Then do *something* to right-click that, and the menus with the various toolbars and Customize will appear. Proceed as above.
Wait, i take that back - the only thing that shows up with the ctrl-shift-s maneuver in the little box is an option to "forbid" informaction.com", "recently blocked sites", "allow scripts globally" and "options" menu in which, under "Appearance", all "Show" boxes, except "full domains" and "full access" are checked - so no help with that either ..
That is, in fact, the opening of the NoScript Menu. I gave you that as a work-around for NoScript menu until we got your icon back for you. It showed only that now, because you were at this site, and no other scripts were attempting to run.
NoScript Appearance tab has nothing to do with Firefox Toolbars, Icon placement, etc. outside of NoScript.

Guess I'll have to take this to someone who might know what you are talking about - my track pad has one (1) button below it, just one. Never had to deal with right/left click that I know of and have had this machine about 10 years - I move the cursor where I want it and click, or double click, period (maybe double click is right, for all i know)
In any case, the only Help on my screen is the Help for Firefox - no help there. There is no "Help" before the address bar ....
File properties? sorry, the only thing I can think of is opening the hard drive, clicking a folder and clicking a file in the folder which shows some data on the file, where it is, what kind, etc - is that what you are referring to?
I appreciate your attempts, but either I am too dumb to get what you are saying or my set up just doesn't match your description, or both
If I get a chance i will take this to someone who perhaps can translate (It would be nice to know why the icon disappeared in the first place!) ....
NoScript is obviously still in the system but i cannot locate an icon I can drag anywhere ....
Thanx for trying, I do appreciate it ...

Sorry that I'm not familiar with your particular device. What is the make and model? If I can find time (and you can't), I'll try to research the manufacturer's support, and find out how to do what in Windows, and many other systems, is a right-click.
In any case, the only Help on my screen is the Help for Firefox - no help there. There is no "Help" before the address bar ....
The exact location of Firefox "Help" menu varies, and is user-configurable.
Forget about "Help". We were just trying to find for you *a vacant space on that bar", on which to (somehow do the equivalent of) right-click and open the Toolbar/Customize menu. Whether that space is near Help or View or whatever is irrelevant, sorry for the unclarity.
File properties? sorry, the only thing I can think of is opening the hard drive, clicking a folder and clicking a file in the folder which shows some data on the file, where it is, what kind, etc - is that what you are referring to?

Neither of us is dumb; I've just never used your device and OS, and you've (apparently) never used a Windows computer, or a standard Mac that does indeed have left- and right-click buttons. (My neighbor's Mac does, I'm pretty sure.)
In Windows, File Properties gives such things as actual size (in bytes or Kb or Mb), size as stored on disk (which is larger; let's not go there now), date created, date last modified, date last accessed, attributes such as read-only, and, for program or system files, the version number -- etc.
If I get a chance i will take this to someone who perhaps can translate (It would be nice to know why the icon disappeared in the first place!) ....
OK, but I think if we can solve the access to the various toolbars and Customize option, we can fix it.
by the way, since last replying, I checked Firefox keyboard shortcuts to see if we could open that toolbar/customize menu, and there isn't a keyboard shortcut for you. Sorry, but I tried...
Thanx for trying, I do appreciate it ...
No problem. Just don't get discouraged. I know these things are annoying (imagine how difficult it is for someone who can neither see your screen nor talk live to you), but in a few days or less, all of this will be ancient history, forgotten, and the world is good again.

You are on a mac, and they only have a single button mouse system. A single click is like a left click on a PC, click and hold, you get the right click on a PC or you can hold the option button and click and get the same effect. If that device issue resolves the issue, I will leave you in Tom's capable hands, if not then allow me tomorrow to read the whole issue thread and I will see what I can offer.

Thank you, kind Sir, I believe that answers the question.
O/T: Is it not possible to buy an accessory mouse for a Mac (perhaps USB, since PS/2 ports are out of style

) that has the usual left and right levers?

Glad to help.

Not off topic at all, its absolutely possible to get a regular mouse for the MAC that is USB or Bluetooth or the more traditional RFID ones. The only problem is that it will help with certain things but the MAC OS is a bit, dumb for a lack of a better word when it comes to mouse operations, it may not actually make a difference all that much as it doesn't necessarily map the right click to the alternative method unless the mouse manufacturer has a specific adaptation or hardware support for MAC internals.
It would be a relatively safe assumption with modern advances and attempts at cross compatibility and so on that it will, but I can't say for sure as a "quote me on this" statement of fact that it will. Hope that helps.
