Yesterday, i could access Facebook, but today i no longer can - ABE throws an error.

I have disabled ABE and that solved the problem, but i would prefer to turn it back on.

What info can i post to help isolate the problem?

Copy/paste the error message from ABE. Tools > Web Developer > Error Console > Messages and look for those relating to ABE or NoScript.

Did you add any ABE rules beyond the defaults?

We don't give out our users' locations, but is it possible that in your location, certain destinations are filtered or blocked by the authorities? -- or for that matter, by your employer, if at work?

One of ABE's functions (its original one, actually) is to prevent Internet sites from accessing certain local resources, such as your LAN or router. Perhaps someone -- a Government agency or a malicious hacker -- is inserting this type of code along with the Facebook code, which could then enable them to change settings, open ports, redirect addresses, or otherwise control or sniff your computer and home network.

Conversations had by email with another (or this?) user lead to the conclusion this was likely the combination of a Facebook temporary outage and a proxy which redirected network failures to a local resource, and already resolved itself spontaneously.

I was having difficulty picturing why ABE would be involved. Clever!

Indeed, not an ABE issue, its a Facebook issue while they are working on FORCING the rollout of their new Timeline (aka CRAPLINE) to the masses. Up until now it was optional and now they are going to be forcing EVERYONE to go to the new style, which is HORRIBLE from a coding perspective, although aesthetically maybe more pleasing to some. I am one of many who contributes to the SocialFixer (previously BetterFacebook) tool that would de-crapify FB and make it more intuitive and useful minus the crap and we are trying to reverse engineer the timeline and its a FREAKIN MESS.

I'm using the default ABE script for Facebook and I'm looking at a news.yahoo.com page and in the comment section I see my Facebook avatar. How is that showing up?

As far as I can tell, ABE is enabled and ought to be working.

Ok, show me what you got for your ABE rule. The FB avatar is hosted on a different server (fbcdn-profile-a.akamaihd.net) so therefore your standard rule won't catch it unless you account for it. So show me your rule, I'll edit it for you to avoid the avatar too or do it yourself based on what I gave you if you know how. Good luck.
