Hello - I'm unsure of the proper terminology, so I'll describe the issue.
When viewing www.slate.com, frequently an ad pops out (rather than "up") - basically, it slides out from the side. It's irritating. Is this thing called a "flyout?"
If it is called a flyout, is there a filter or a script that I may use to prevent it? I used AdBlocker+ to block some of the data within the small frame, but the frame and its text continues to annoy. Again, if it is a flyout, here's the only NS filter I have that mentions one: http://www.slate.com/content.flyout.json
Thanks. Use small words and write slowly.

Re: Pop"out" Blocking
what ever it is called, it is almost surely run by a script.
noscript stops this. that's why it is called noscript.
read SOME SITES YOU MIGHT NOT WANT TO ALLOW, and see if any of those are showing in the noscript menu when you click on the noscript icon or hover the mouse over it.
if they are in red, click "Forbid". then they won't ever bother you again. you may have allowed them at some point, because all scripts are blocked by default, except for those in the Default Whitelist.
does this solve the problem? i got no ads at all when i went there, because none of those ad sites are allowed by me.
for a simple intro on using noscript, please see NoScript Quick Start Guide
i hope this was simple enough. not mocking you; i have been in that position when asking for help at other sites and other products.
cheers,
Tom

Re: Pop"out" Blocking
Thanks, Tom, but I don't think it worked, unfortunately. I didn't get any "popup" (actually, "slide-in") this time, either, while yesterday it happened all the time (inside one of the stories). I did have scripts on that site temporarily allowed, because in the past it hasn't seemed to matter whether they are or not - the thing slides in, anyway. I've revoked them now. I appreciate your time.

Re: Pop"out" Blocking
Two more possibilities: Firefox Tools > Options > Content > Block Popup Windows, ensure that it's checked, and that there is nothing in the Exceptions box for Slate.
It could also be triggered by a "mouseover" element on the page, in the same way that some sites have menus that pop down if you put the mouse pointer over it.
But since it was inside one of the stories, it may be that that particular story either had such an element, or carried the popup along with the article. Slate seems to link to many other sources, including WashingtonPost.com and others. So it could be the third party who's carrying that.
I can try harder to reproduce, disabling some of my blocking temporarily. If I can make it happen, I can make it stop.
And you're very welcome for the time.
