"Apply these restrictions to whitelisted sites too" problem
"Apply these restrictions to whitelisted sites too" problem
Flashblock started to block Youtube videos permanently for me on the Firefox nightly (maybe because of some incompatibility with my other extensions). I did some research and found out that NoScript, which I already had been using, can replace the feature I was using of Flashblock with the "Apply these restrictions to whitelisted sites too" option. I turned this option on and it worked perfectly on Youtube.
However, this option also also blocks the Gmail Chat and there's no way to use it (even by using the "enable blocked bobjects temporarily" NoScript button option). It also makes it impossible for me to play Vimeo videos.
Is there a way to way to keep Youtube, Gmail and Vimeo objects whitelisted, but still prevent them from loading automatically?

Did you try any of the less restrictive options you get in the "Blocked objects..." submenus on GMail and Vimeo (e.g. Temporarily allow *@https://mail.google.com or something like that)?

I did. I don't have any contact online right now to try it again, but I just tried enabling the less restrict Vimeo option, but it still displayed only a blank space after I clicked on the Flash placeholder to see the video.

You may and probably are missing something else here, so provide a test link for us to try and see if we can reproduce your issue because I and many others use Gmail just fine, without need for any less restrictive settings, so I am guessing something else is in play too. Possibly you have Ghostery which has notoriously broken content and now using a limited surrogate system sometimes injects conflicting code that can screw with things. Try a clean profile that has just NS installed and see if you get the issue. I am guessing you won't which confirms its something else. If it does, then we have a better idea why.

Sorry for taking too long to reply.
GµårÐïåñ, I'm talking about chat calls, and not Gmail in general. Both Vimeo and Youtube now work fine (maybe some other changes in the last updates fixed it by itself?), but I still can't make voice or video calls on Gmail with the "Apply these restrictions to..." option actived.
I've tried to connect to it with the less restrictive temporary options, as Giorgio suggested me, but it still didn't work. Gmail shows me a popup telling me to download/install the plugin instead, although both the Chat plugin and the Video Accelerator plugin are enabled for me. As I've said before, the video/voice chat works normally once I disabled this NoScript option.

Have you tried Creating Site-Specific Permissions via ABE?

No problem, glad it works for you now.powerfanboy wrote:Sorry for taking too long to reply.

It's much less safe now. An ABE rule would allow you to still apply restrictions to whitelisted sites, while giving specific permission to these specific objects at those specific sites.GµårÐïåñ wrote:No problem, glad it works for you now.powerfanboy wrote:Sorry for taking too long to reply.

I've found out that if I dismiss the plugin installation popup twice after enabling Google objects temporarily , and keep clicking on the "invite x for a chat" link, the video/voice chat is finally launched.

It may very well be a poorly implemented plugin check or something that is getting mangled in the process. Because what you said strongly supports that theory. Sorry for the trouble but hopefully they catch on and fix it to avoid such issues for you in the future. If there is anything Giorgio can do as a work around, which he often does to compensate for bad coding by developers, he will, but otherwise, its just a wait and see kind of situation.powerfanboy wrote:I've found out that if I dismiss the plugin installation popup twice after enabling Google objects temporarily , and keep clicking on the "invite x for a chat" link, the video/voice chat is finally launched.
