Third post I've seen where this was an issue; apparently OP finds this at multiple sites. I believe I isolated the issue to DC fairly effectively (toggling HOSTS blocking of DC toggles the animation runs/broken).

First one, from 2009, might not be relevant, because it was eventually solved by a surrogate for IMDb. But it hinted at what was to come.
This trend appears to be spreading: "If you won't run our ad script, we won't let you see what you want to see."
We have surrogates for many ad-servers as well as for data-miners. DC is one of the most ubiquitous. May we please have a surrogate for it?
