My issue is with sites that need JavaScript for basic functionality but they also have some automatic running code that does something annoying/useless. A clear example is the scrolling "New Products" box on HobbyKing: www dot hobbyking.com

You need JavaScript for the menu and to turn "autoplay off" for the youtube clip so i do need JavaScript, just not all of it.

So I'm requesting the option to only execute JavaScript functions that are called as the result of a clicked item.

That would still probably break a lot of home pages that require JS.
Here's a quick-and-dirty work-around:
View > Page Style > No Style

The home page will look very different, but no scrolling any more. It seems you can still shop and browse. At random, I clicked on

Turnigy 2810 EDF Outrunner 3300kv for 55/64mm

and it seemed to be ready to sell it to me.
Also, at that point, one could revert to > Basic page style (or whatever any given page calls their default style), and not have any scrolling -- unless you go back to the home page. But it seems to work fine in "No Style" mode.

(The URL was sanitized against search-engine hits. Your request was sincere, but some have used this to sneak in spam links. No offense meant.)

The bookmarklet, zap, will stop it.
(Does some other things too, but it does stop the scrolling. So load the page, click, zap, & it stops. You would have to do that each time you load the page.)

@Tom and others, may I recommend good old Lynx. Text only browser, and as old school command line warrior as it gets. However, with today's bloated and crazy development style, you might get a fairly unusable website, more for browsing for content than shopping or playing games or interactive stuff. Just saying.

I've often wished for text-only. Some pages still provide that option, but not very many.
It wouldn't be useful for shopping, especially at OP's site. We need to see the images.
Wasn't aware of tool suggested by therube, so have no personal experience with it, but it looks like the right idea. Zap the <marquee> tag.

I know my friend, the good old days of browsing on Linux using Lynx. But mostly I was saying it in reference to removing formatting that you mentioned, I was being silly, sorry it didn't clear the text barrier what I had in my head. For any of today's shopping, embedded media and so on, it wouldn't work. Unless you wanted to read the page without all the crap, then it would be great for filtering just the text on each page.
