... I think I heard sometime in the past that this was doable with NoScript. I can get that with some extensions in Chrome, i.e. block Facebook and twitter etc... on non-FB and non-twitter sites. Any clue how I can obtain the same results with NS? thanks

Or if you don't wish to work with ABE: leave FB and Twitter untrusted by default, and temporarily allow them only when you are actually at their sites.
