Nope (at least not according to the install.rdf of NoScript 2.1.2.7rc2):

And yes I believe to understand that according to
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... /versions/ it is, so I guess when you install NoScript it will then work because Firefox will download a version compatibility update. But this won't work in the case of global installs.

Then install from

The rdf says 8.0a1 because at the time it has been uploaded on AMO, AMO's validator still coughed on 9.0a1 (while it could be already set in the compatibility metadata).

Ah OK, so dev versions from AMO can differ from dev versions from noscript.net in regards to the maxVersion even when it they have the same version number. Good to know (BTW, normally I get it from you site and not AMO, but in this case I apparently didn't).
Other extension devs handle this differently, by raising the rightmost version number, like e.g. on
