Is there a reason the latest Development version 2.1.2.3rc3 is still downloading as development build 2.1.2.3rc2?
Thanks

In the trade, they call that a "safu".
In the meantime,
noscript-2.1.2.3rc3.

Hi,
Noscript.net shows latest version as 2.1.2.3. but that is not listed in the changelog. I just want to make sure it's a regular update before I install it.
Thanks!

Here is some guideline for understanding version numbers. When something is labeled 2.1.2.3rc* it means that its a release candidate for that version. Meaning what, meaning when its all said and done and no other changes happen for it, it finalizes and becomes 2.1.2.3 minus the rc notation. Make sense? So the dev version that is available on the NoScript site is the latest package and yes once finalized, will be the same as the release one you should/would use. So while not finalized and still changing, get the latest build off the dev link, and when finalized and released to AMO, then the stable will be the same.

Hi, Thank you for explaining about the rc. I always wondered about that and appreciate your explaining it to me.
The reason that I just use the stable versions is cause at times I've seen in the forum here occasionally that the .rc version may have problems which just need tweaking of course, but in the meantime people may need to go back to the stable version depending on how serious the problems are.
I'm not tech savvy enough to know what program is causing what problem, nor whether or how to go back to a version..not stuff I want to mess with. Firefox runs okay and I take as few risks as possible as no idea how to fix things. So, that's why i just use the latest stable version.
I just realized though that you wrote that "while not finalized and still changing"..."when finalized and released to AMO, stable will be the same."
I guess this is why I'm looking for it in the changelog, because it shows as "V. 2.1.2.3 - Free to be Safe… for Free!" on noscript.net on the middle right of that page which has always meant that it's the latest stable and in the past is also always in the changelog as well.
I'm probably not making any sense..lol. Sorry! I just want to be sure the download showing on noscript.net yields the 2.1.2.3 and not an rc one.
Thanks so much!

You are welcome, glad to help. One last piece of clarification perhaps. When you go to NoScript.net, click on "get it" on the menu and then it will take you to where you can see the dev build (along with the changelog) and also the stable version (which should actually be called released version, but whatever). Now if you notice, alot of times the version number of the last dev build matches the release, barring the rc notations showing incremental changes in preparation for the release. If the version of the dev is higher, then its the most updated and most recently patched version of the software and often resolves any issues people come here for. However, you are right, for sake of testing, sometimes its necessary to roll back and with the database of ALL releases available, its not hard to go back to an older version anytime, even if you install the dev instead of the release. In fact, as a matter of default, I suggest and prefer to run the dev build as it IS the latest and most complete build.
