[RESOLVED] FG request admin privilege on every right click
[RESOLVED] FG request admin privilege on every right click
Hello , I am using FF 4.0.1 and FG 1.3.0.1 under Windows 7 64bit
Few months ago FG started to act this weird way. Every time I do a right click, even on a selected text (not hyperlink) Flashgot Native Bridge requests administrative privilege.
It should not ask for that privilege, and shouldn't ask when right clicking on text in the first place.
Any ideas what's the proplem?
Thanks in advance

Re: FG request admin privilege on every right click
No it shouldn't.
Can I see a screenshot?
Could you try manually removing FlashGot.exe from your profile folder and restarting your browser?

I couldn't get a screen shot while the request is on screen.Giorgio Maone wrote:No it shouldn't.

manually removing FlashGot.exe from profile folder didn't fix the problem.
P.S. I tried uninstall/reinstall flashgot before and it didn't fix the problem.
Thanks for reply

Alt+[Print Screen], then past anywhere you can edit and save an image.Sensiva wrote:I couldn't get a screen shot while the request is on screen.Giorgio Maone wrote:No it shouldn't.

Are you using any special security software?

pressing PrtScrn while this dialoge is on screen doesn't save the shot into the clipboard to be pasted whereverGiorgio Maone wrote:Alt+[Print Screen], then past anywhere you can edit and save an image.Sensiva wrote:I couldn't get a screen shot while the request is on screen.Giorgio Maone wrote:No it shouldn't.

Re: FG request admin privilege on every right click
OK, I believe I know what's going on.
First time you use FlashGot (and right-clicking the menu first time does use it, because FlashGot menu items will be displayed and they must know about installed download managers) FlashGot.exe is executed.
The strange part is why should FlashGot.exe need administrative privileges to perform the task it is called for, i.e. enumerating the installed download managers.
To do so, it queries the Windows registry for installed COM (ActiveX) components which are usually called by Internet Explorer for in-browser integration of these download managers (and which FlashGot piggies back).
This read-only operation shouldn't normally require administrative privileges, unless you imposed additional restrictions to your security settings.
Either way, giving these permissions on a permanent base (or first time your right click and everytime you launch an external download manager, if you use one) will remove the annoyance.
Alternatively, if you don't use any external download manager, you may want to uncheck FlashGot Options|Advanced|Automatic download manager detection.
