[Fixed] Nightly hangs with the latest NS dev version
[Fixed] Nightly hangs with the latest NS dev version
- The latest Nightly 6.0a1 (2011-05-02) on an updated Ubuntu 10.10 x86
- The latest NoScript development version (v 2.1.0.4rc3)
After updating to the latest dev version of NS , the browser hangs at restart with 100 per cent of CPU use just after terminating to load the opened tabs of previous session : I cant' access anything ( no console , no tabs ... totally unrensponsive ) , only minimize/maximize ; closing the window doesn't work since I can close/kill the browser only after the metacity dialogue box came up and then confirming I want to close/kill the browser window but killing the browser and then restarting it didn't solve the problem.
Restarting in safe mode -> All is working as expected
Installing the latest stable version of NS ( v 2.1.0.3 ) and restarting in normal mode -> All is working as expected.
I didn't try on a fresh profile yet , but I think the thing should be investigated since installing the latests stable NS version makes all working.
I will try with a fresh profile later.

Re: Nightly hangs with the latest NS dev version
I cannot reproduce.
It might be triggered by some of the pages included in your session restore.
Have you still got them?
If so, could you check whether rc3 still triggers, and if it does try rc2 and rc1 to narrow the search, and then try to close down to the triggering page?
If you don't have those pages opened anymore, could you check whether rc3 actually still hangs for you?

Ok ... I've just installed rc1 and all is working fine ( no any hang ) ...
I am going to try rc2 and eventually rc3 again.

I am in safe mode now ... nightly hanged again in the same way with the rc2 installed, but I can't access to error console .
Is there anything I can do to log NS output before I revert to rc1 ?

You can set the noscript.consoleDump [url=http://kb..org/About:config]about:config[/url] preference to 1 and start Firefox from a terminal, redirecting its output in a file.

Re: Nightly hangs with the latest NS dev version
Just for the record, on yesterday's Nightly (have not tested with today's yet) I was getting hung up every other minute and it was getting really annoying. I figured it was a change in Nightly that was causing it but then decided to do a bit of investigating and found the following as the circumstance that caused ALL of my hangs and freezing and making me force close my browser.
Cluster f*** condition (in no particular order apparently)
-----------------------------------------------------------------
1. Content served through an IFRAME
2. That content uses AJAX (to generate a modal div)
3. That modal div contains a FLASH object
4. And just for good measure, they are served off mismatched servers (meaning: HOSTING SITE -> IFRAME (SURROGATE SITE) -> SURROGATE SITE (AJAX (FLASH)))
Just saying, in case its something to do with how NS does regressions and checks recursions. Doubtful though, but might be worth taking a quick look if you can or feel inclined Giorgio.

Re: [Fixed] Nightly hangs with the latest NS dev version
Glad your problem got fixed and that's one of the many things I love about Giorgio, but my specific cluster case I presented still occurs. Less frequently, I give you that but still happens. Good thing my primary browser is fine, just this test one is an issue.

Have you got a ready-made test page I can access?GµårÐïåñ wrote:Glad your problem got fixed and that's one of the many things I love about Giorgio, but my specific cluster case I presented still occurs. Re: [Fixed] Nightly hangs with the latest NS dev version
looks like i'm experiencing the same problem.
for the last week, or so, nightly has become very unstable, freezing during the night, even without user-interaction.
i did some tests, and was able to reproduce the _bug_ with any ns version, therefore i believe it must be related to some nightly change…
both clean(only ns installed - default config) & dirty profile hang when clicking a link on this site:
http://blogs.computerworlduk.com/open-e ... /index.htm
specifically the link in this post:

Yes, I was surprised too. It was Perapera kun: http://perapera.wordpress.com/
Interestingly, a blog there yesterday suggested re-installing the addon if there were problems. I did that, and now get an error message that the Chinese English dictionary is "incompatible with 4.0.1"....

hope this helps, tia.

Re: [Fixed] Nightly hangs with the latest NS dev version
after checking some older nightlies, i think i have found the range where the change happened.
http://hg.mozilla.org/mozilla-central/rev/c5e8cc100248 -> nightly 26.04.2011
every build after that one seems broken when using NS.
