[RESOLVED] Firefox 4 has many problems with Noscript

After the recent update, I had a wide variety of problems when Firefox 4 restarted. It did not restore my previous session, a blank tab came up instead of my homepage, I could not open my add-on manager until I opened a new tab, the bookmarks toolbar failed to load and this is just what I immediately saw. I restarted Firefox with NoScript disabled and it worked fine, so I know that NoScript itself is the problem. Removing it and reinstalling it didn't seem to work. I don't know if I'm the only one who had this problem. Please let me know if there is a way to fix this. Thank you.

Encountered exactly the same problems so have uninstalled NoScript for now. Would love an early fix.

This version has been out for beta testing for 6 days now, and nobody reported anything like that.
So probably we're looking at an extensions conflict.
Could you all check whether this problem happens also on a clean profile with just NoScript installed?

Same trouble here, FF (4.0) instead of restoring my saved session opened in a mode I've never seen, appearing like a window within a window (like when you open multiple Excel spreadsheets, there's one Excel window and each sheet is a window in that) with the outer window having a little firefox tab in the upper left, clicking on which shows the menu bar and the inner window being a blank tab (not even homepage) that's only partly functional (eg back tab doesn't work if go to a search page in the window and then a search link, then try to return to the search page; add-on window won't open; opening about:sessionrestore and selecting session does nothing). The max/min/close buttons in both the inner and outer windows do the same thing as each other, act on the whole window, it's not like the inner window will min/max/close acts on the inner window leaving the outer intact.
Opening a actual new FF window while the first above is still open restores my previous session as usual, looks like a completely normal startup
Add-on updates show only 2 changes since I last used FF, auto-updates on startup this AM to NoScript and Taco; disabling Taco has no effect, disabling NoScript makes the problem go away, re-enabling it makes the problem re-appear.

Update to original post - I have the problem at work but not at home. I think I have mostly the same extensions on both PC's. Windows XP @ work / Vista @ home. Will test for extension conflicts at work on Monday... On work PC I get the same as mtp - window within a window.

Please try Standard Diagnostic while keeping NoScript enabled: maybe a change in NoScript affected some other extension.

I hope the posters here realise that session restore changed with Firefox 4.0 in that way that there is no more automatic restoration when Firefox was closed properly, unless "Show my windows and tabs from last time" is set.

I didn't try a clean profile, but I did try disabling all extensions except NoScript, and the restart after the changes brought up a normal start, so yes, probably an extension conflict.
I re-enabled them a few at a time and didn't run into the problem again until re-enabling yahoo toolbar (v2.3.5.2xxxxxx, x=lotta numbers), so the conflict appears to be there, at least on my system. Unfortunately doing all this somewhere along the way trashed my saved session info, grrrr.

Well I too just tried a restart with all extensions & plugins disabled.....& got a normal start. Then I tried enabling NoScript alone.....& the issue returned. Could another extension still be conflicting even though disabled?

Quite unlikely unless there's a Firefox bug.

It would be nice to be able to go back to the prior conflict-free-version in interim until some fix to this, but tho I find a changelog, I don't find any archive of downloadable prior versions. Is there one?

Giorgio, your links for Clean Profile, Standard Diagnostic, etc aren't working, just so you know. The one for the latter should be
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diag ... ion_issues, not http://kb..org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox#Extension_issues.
Also the process described there is what 2 of us have essentially done - not safe mode per se, but at least disabling all extensions. In one case so far that seems to have shown a problem with NS alone, in another, instead an apparent conflict with the current version yahoo toolbar.

Here's what I would do in your situation.
1) Reset the whitelist and all NoScript settings by pressing the Reset button at the bottom of the NoScript Options window.
2) If that doesn't solve the problem, then create a new profile -- for testing at least. Don't change any of the profile's settings or modify it in any other way.
Install only NoScript and don't change any of its settings.
Let us know when you've done that and we can proceed from there.
