IP address 1.2.3.6

I've noticed lately that address 1.2.3.6 has been popping up as blocked. This started about 3 weeks ago and has persistently been appearing about 80% of the time no matter what sites I visit.

Most blocked sites are under a name not a numbered address. I tried pinging it from a command line and the request timed out. Has anyone else encountered this or know what/who this is?

It looks like something that either your ISP or a software you got installed injects in the web page.
Does opening http://1.2.3.6/ in the address bar give anything?
Could you show me the "View source" output of one of these pages?

Tried both suggestions.....blank screen for both. I am stumped.

View source on one of the regular pages where you get the additional script, I meant.

Ah, got ya.

Ok, so here is the URL for an online chess I play.

http://www.queensac.com/jchess/jchess.html

Here is the source code for that page with the 1.2.3.6 address blocked. It plays just fine without allowing 1.2.3.6 to run.

<html><script src="http://1.2.3.6/bmi-int-js/bmi.js" language="javascript"></script><head><title>jchess</title> </head><BODY><hr><APPLET code=jchess.class height=400 name=jchess width=400> <PARAM NAME="fen" VALUE=""><PARAM NAME="bgcolor" VALUE=""><PARAM NAME="color" VALUE=""><PARAM NAME="whtfld" VALUE=""><PARAM NAME="blkfld" VALUE=""></APPLET><hr></BODY></html><script language="javascript"><!--
bmi_SafeAddOnload(bmi_load,"bmi_orig_img",0);//-->
</script>

Thanks.

I have no 3G thingie myself but I've been told that this "feature" meant to reduce bandwidth by degrading image quality using braindead techniques can be deactivated somewhere.

So am I to understand that this has something to do with my 3G connection? I did a software "upgrade" a few weeks ago. Would anyone speculate a connection?

It basically seems like a proxy situation where the server is meant to "compress" for lack of a better word to speed up your connection to the content. Yahoo calls it accelerator, Google too and AT&T, and a few others have it too. If you have unlimited data and fast connection, then just disable that feature and you should be fine. But if your connection is PURELY proxy controlled by your provider, then you are pretty much out of luck, they do this so they can throttle your connection, speed, bandwidth and a host of other things.
