FlashGot and linksafe.me JavaScript redirectors

Post by informaction »

I swear this used to work. Flashgot latest version against Speed Download 5.2.22 on Snow Leopard, Firefox 3.6.16. I try to FlashGot Selection for several, or FlashGot Link for one, of linksafe.me URLs like:

Code: Select all

http://linksafe.me/d/blechblch/foo
They point to files like:

Code: Select all

<SCRIPT language="JavaScript">
<!--
window.location="http://fileserve.com/file/blahblah";
//-->
</SCRIPT>
<a href="http://fileserve.com/file/blahblah">Click here to continue if you do not get redirected</a>
FlashGot hands the original URL to Speed Download. Speed Download dutifully downloads the little JavaScript file from linksafe! People use linksafe.me all the time, some with FlashGot/Speed Download I am sure. *I* have used this combo successfully. Suddenly it's not working. Who is supposed to handle the JavaScript redirection? FlashGot or Speed Download? Have I missed a Preference setting somewhere?

Obviously, if I just left click on the linksafe link I get to the indicated page, JavaScript runs, and suddenly my browser is asking me what I want to do with my file? One of the choices is to FlashGot it through Speed Download! And of course that works. So I have to walk through multiple steps every time I want to download a handful of referred files, whereas I used to be able to just FlashGot them. I have also tried right-click and choosing Speed Download directly, or using Speed Download's Add button to insert the linksafe URLs directly. Same story. Speed Download grabs the linksafe JavaScript files.

Ideas? SIgh. Thanks.

Sample links (I have not idea what they lead to):

http://linksafe.me/d/75ab410661 Rapidshare (1.5gb Links – Premium Users Only) http://linksafe.me/d/4a71b6ea97 http://linksafe.me/d/c710dc6ca2 http://linksafe.me/d/3e028e3209 FileSonic (Interchangeable) http://linksafe.me/d/ea6d1a0169 http://linksafe.me/d/11cabe2d14 http://linksafe.me/d/ba7557d4f8 FileServe (Interchangeable) http://linksafe.me/d/7f193d4821 http://linksafe.me/d/db20cf8344

Don't see where FlashGot resolves linksafe links.
Seems linksafe simply points to some other download location.
Even if linksafe links were resolved, download would still depend on the linked location, so you may need to enter captcha's or wait for timeouts ...

Perhaps it was Speed Download that was resolving the links for you, & now it fails?

Thanks for the actual samples, should someone else want to take a shot at this. Yes, my examples clearly show that linksafe merely re-directs. I happen to have an account on the destination, so there is no captcha nor timeouts. When I click on the linksafe.me URLs, as I said, my browser runs the JavaScript as expected, and up pops a download dialog.

Sure, maybe it was Speed Download that used to bump me through the re-direction. I'll pursue that thought as well. If FlashGot never did follow through the re-direction (and it certainly makes sense that it did not), then Speed Download is obviously the only other place to look.

Thanks.

OMG - is this guy for real?!

I grabbed the dev build, installed and restarted Firefox. Went straight to a list of eight linksafe.me URLs, highlighted them all, and FlashGot Selection. Bing, bang, boom - downloading the actual files!

After I hit Submit for this comment I am going straight to the Donate page and sling out US$20. This is the kind of behavior I like to encourage. Thanks, Giorgio!
