[RESOLVED] Firefox 4 - No status icon after 2.0.9.1

Hi,

I am currently testing Firefox 4.0 Beta 8 on openSUSE 11.3.

Since NoScript version 1.0.9.2rc1 (and 1.0.9.2 final which, I believe is the same thing) the status icon does not appear in the Add-on Bar.

I have followed the threads in this forum relating to icons not showing but nothing in them results in the icon showing. The icon did show once after a browser restart but it appeared as a drop-down i.e. it had a down arrow next to it. I have not been able to make the icon show since this one occurrence.

I believe this is a newly introduced bug.

Regards,
Neil Darlow

No it's not.

Hi,

OK, my bad, I missed that post.

The problem I now have is that there is no NoScript icon available in the Toolbar Customisation panel for me to drag into the Add-on Bar.

What am I missing here?

It must be either in the "Customize toolbar" window or in any of your toolbars. BTW, you should have not just one, but 3 NoScript toolbar buttons (with different functionality).
If you cannot find any, that's very likely a Fx bug or an ext conflict.
Is NoScript's context menu there when you right click a web page?
If not, could you try reinstalling NoScript?

Hi,

There are no NoScript icons in the Toolbar Customise... at all.

My screen is 1024px wide so, I suppose, it is possible that the NoScript icon is on the toolbar but cropped from view. In toolbar customisation view I do not see any NoScript icons on the toolbar either.

I have tried removing/reinstalling NoScript 2.0.9.x already to recover the icons but the result is the same.

NoScript does show an icon with version 2.0.8.1 - which AMO still wants to deliver.

Neil Darlow

The icon shown in 2.0.8.1 is the old, deprecated, status bar icon.

That's very unlikely, since the address bar and the search bar are both shrinkable.
And anyway, this doesn't explain where the other two buttons are gone.
Did you scroll down your "Customize toolbar window"?

Did you check whether the context menu is there?
Does NoScript otherwise appear to work?

Another strange thing is that, as you reported, you've actually seen the toolbar button being added to the add-on bar, but it disappeared after a browser restart.
If you cannot see any toolbar button of the 3 which should be there, something definitely went wrong, at least with your browser profile.
Could you try on a clean one?
What about Standard Diagnostic?

Hi,

I created a new profile and installed NoScript-2.0.9.2rc1 only.

At startup, after loading noscript.net, a blocked script message is displayed and enabling the Add-on Bar displays no NoScript icon. Attempting to customise the toolbar presents no NoScript icons either.

I have not been able to try the standard diagnostic yet because I just get a connection timeout when attempting it.

If you are unable to reproduce this problem I guess it could be Linux specific. I do not have a Windows system running Firefox 4.0 beta 8 to test for similar behaviour on.

The context menu appears and NoScript appears to work, at least I can click on the captcha script here and submit posts.

If the add-on bar was not displayed at startup, the NoScript icon (button) should have been automatically placed on the left of the address bar, in the top toolbar (just below the tabs).
Isn't it there?

Hi,

No, there is no icon displayed in the main toolbar when the Add-on Bar was disabled at startup.

Hi,

You obviously know your code and what it should be doing but there are a few unexpected things going on here.

I know nothing about Firefox extension packaging but it appears that there is, for me, a fundamental problem associated with the NoScript icons.

Is it possible there is a permissions problem with the icon images themselves within the .xpi archive?

Neil Darlow

Nope.
I've just checked on Linux (Ubuntu 8.0.4 LTS) and it's working fine for me.
Could you please show me a screenshot of your main window, and one or more of your customization toolbox displaying its whole content through vertical scrolling?

Hi,

These screenshots are for a new profile with only NoScript-2.0.9.2rc1 installed.

This is extremely weird.
There are 3 missing buttons there!
Are you sure you don't have any globally installed extension, any OS-specific theme or any custom chrome stylesheet somewhere?

Hi,

Good catch Giorgio - well almost!

I installed Firefox from openSUSE's mozilla:beta repository which has a dependency on their mozilla repository.

The problem was a package mozilla-kde4-integration which had been updated in the mozilla repository but the Firefox package was still referencing an older package from openSUSE's main repository.

A case of bad packaging. Once the newer package was installed I could drag the NoScript icon from the toolbar into the Add-on Bar and your three NoScript icons now appear in the Toolbar Customisation picker.

We can thank openSUSE for wasting our time on this.

Neil Darlow

I am seeing exactly the same problem with Ubuntu Natty. I had to use Chrome to post this, since Firefox is effectively useless without disabling NoScript, and I'm still trying to resolve the problem.
