Rightclick menus take 3-5 seconds to load

Is this normal behaviour in flashgot?

I've been using flashgot + orbit for the past year and it's always been dreadfully slow, I usually have roughly 100 tabs in firefox open so I always had assumed this was the fault of firefox.

However it's come to my attention on my new install of win7 that it's completely flashgots issue.
I have a couple of addons that affect the right mouse button and they all load instantly; the moment flashgot comes into the picture I get obscene latency on the right-click menu which is quite irritating.

I also note that when I go into flashgot options and change the downloader to browser-built-in, the issue disappears. Unfortunately it defeats the purpose having flashgot set up this way.

I have no antivirus installed and no windows defender etc. I have disabled all of the options of flashgot to little effect. I have not tried other download managers, I also do not believe it to be orbits fault but more of a caching issue with rmb?

Any help would be appeciated in fixing this.

I can't reproduce this problem (and yes, I do use Orbit).

Did you try on a clean profile with just FlashGot installed?
If the problem goes away, could you try Standard Diagnostic on your regular profile keeping FlashGot enabled, in order to spot a possible conflict?

Well, here's what I've discovered.

Flashgot + 250 tabs = extremely sluggish (atleast on my setup).

I could not find any compatibility/speed issues between plug-ins tested individually versus flashgot; however, I have a reasonable solution to the issue.
The Bartab add-on will cut down on actual content loaded into firefox and seems to help a great deal with load time (reduced right-mouse button latency from 3-5sec to 200-400ms). Is flashgot processing each tab for some reason?

Firefox profile is new because I had only just installed windows, but I did not attempt to create another as i'm going to use bartab to get around it.

Giorgio do you run flashgot with >100 tabs without the rmb slowdown in firefox?

No, it's not doing anything like that (unless you actually use "FlashGot Tabs", but not on right-click anyway).

Yes I do.

More scientifically, I tested a clean profile with just FlashGot installed and ran the following JavaScript in the location bar:

Code: Select all

javascript:for (var j = 250; j-- > 0;) open("http://www.google.com/"); void(0)
Then I picked a random tab, among the 250 opened Google tabs and right clicked: the menu came out instantly.

Could you try exactly the same?

I decided to humor your request and here's what I found.

New profile + 250 google tabs = instant.
New profile + all addons(no bartab) + 250 google tabs = instant.
New profile + no addons + flashgot + 250 fileplanet (more like bloatplanet) = 1 second (understandable because of heavy flash usage)
New profile + all addons(no bartab) + 249 real websites I use = 3 seconds or more
New profile + all addons(no bartab) + 249 real websites I use + Flashgots download manager set to brower-built-in = instant.

I have both flashblock and adblock plus installed to mitigate cpu usage. (3-15 spikes every few seconds)

I can only imagine one or more websites is preventing flashgot from processing what it needs to on right-mouse. I hope this information helps you improve flashgot.

My initial thought (from yesterday) was that Flash can be very CPU intensive, such that context menu (or other) operations can be very slow to act. Not unheard of to click the FlashGot Media icon, then need to Alt+Tab to a different Window (& or application) to cause focus to change, which then drops the (Flash) pages priority letting some other action to take place - like the download manager dialog to appear.

Though what I describe is different from a context menu appearing.

In days of old, a large downloads.rdf (not used any more) would significantly delay context menu.

Your "spikes", you're tracking that with Process Explorer (or similar)?

What is your CPU, how much memory?

At the moment, (SeaMonkey) is using 1.1 GB of Mem, though only a few % of CPU (Intel i5 750, 4 GB ram). (Nothing Flash particularly related is open that I am aware.)

@fireware, have that perhaps?

Something different, https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour ... bug/528798.

Don't recall whatever became of this, but it is no longer an issue, Right-Click Context Menu Slow & Heavy.

Yes I'm using process explorer.

Cpu and memory:
Phenom II x2 550, with 3.25gb usable ram on Win7 32bit.
Firefox was using around 900~1200MB of ram, and with BarTab, as little as 150mb.

My addons are as follows, Adblock plus, Flashblock, BarTab, Flashgot, Right-Click-Link, TabFilter.

Thanks for the additional insights into the problem, though it's now largely a non-issue thanks to BarTab and TabFilter.

Thank you firewire!
I have exactly the same problem with you, and set the Flashgots download manager to brower-built-in works.
