Recently, especially after Youtube's big makeover, I've come across many Youtube videos that Flashgot will only download in multiple parts (each about half a MB). However, if the exact same Youtube video is seen on a different website, the problem goes away. What to do?

BTW, I'm on up-to-date hardware, running Vista Business x86, and the most current versions of Firefox and Flashgot.

Not sure what you mean "in multiple parts"?

Downloaded as expected for me.
The physical downloading of the file (bits moving over the wire) look to be in a start/stop/start/stop fashion. Nonetheless, when finished, the file is complete & works.

What download manager are you using?
If you use browser built-in, does the same occur to you?

Download managers usually have option to split a download into multiple segments (to speed up the download), but when done, you still end up with one contiguous file.

On what other site is this clip hosted where it downloads correctly for you?

Regarding the "multiple parts", take this YouTube video for example:

As soon as the video starts playing, I can left-click the FlashGot icon and the "FlashGot (Browser Built-In)" window pops-up (so, yes, I'm using the built-in download manager, no other add-on/extension) asking me where I'd like to save the ".flv" file. Once I click "Okay", the download I end up with is a 1.48MB file, which plays only the first 22 seconds of the video.

Now, if I wait a while, I can no longer left-click the FlashGot icon, because there are now multiple videos/parts available to download apparently. So, if instead, I right-click the FlashGot icon, and select the first/top available video/part (which it states is a 1MB video), and click "Okay" in the destination selection window; I get the same file as in the paragraph above.

If we take the last paragraph (immediately above) and go a step further, and select the second video/part, click "Okay"; then, I end up with a video that is 1.17MB in size, and 42 seconds. However, there is no audio for the first 22 seconds (I suppose that data is from that first 22 second video), while it displays a still image from somewhere between the 23-42 second marks. This indicates to me that FlashGot was only able to download the "second part" or 23-42 seconds from the original video.

If we try the third video/part, I get a 1.09MB video, that is 1 minute and 2 seconds in length, but where there is no audio for the first 42 seconds.

However, when the same YouTube video (it's links to the same address as above) is linked/played in another website, FlashGot acts normally. See:

At this alternate website, I can left/right-click (as FlashGot only detects one downloadable video), and I end up with a proper (here, assuming you are just viewing the 360p version of the video) full-length 8.6MB (well, FlashGot reports 9MB if you right-click the icon because it's rounding up) video that is 3 minutes and 41 seconds in length.

I hope you can understand my problem now, and hopefully help me find a solution. Thank you!

Not able to confirm.

Using Browser Built-in or using Net Transport I get a single FlashGot Media link & a single (8 MB) downloaded file. (File is exactly <almost actually, but the diff is immaterial> the same regardless of the download method or the site downloaded from.)

The unrulymedia.com "link" is the same as the youtube hosted link. Only difference there could be the referrer or perhaps cookie. Might you be blocking referrer or cookie?

What type of internet connection?
Sufficient to stream properly? Not using satellite? Not running through a proxy or anything like that?
You're in the US?

Perhaps of interest here is "&algorithm=throttle-factor"? Have no idea what it means but perhaps in your case, you're getting some sort of start/stop rather then a steady stream?

In my case, the stream started once & ran through completion. (Sometimes you will see in the logs where <& perhaps more so with RTMP> part of the stream comes down, then it loops & grabs more, & loops again ...)

As a test, create a new, clean Profile.
Install only FlashGot, attempt the download, & see if there is any change.

Thank you again "therube" for all your trouble-shooting help! Finally found the solution!

First, to answer your questions (may be helpful to others in a similar situation):
Internet connection - ADSL 2Mb
Sufficient to stream
Not satellite
No proxy
In the U.S.

After creating a clean Profile, with only FlashGot, it worked!

So, after some testing, I found the problem to be a "cookie" problem, namely the "CookieSafe" extension/add-on.
In my original Profile, I had to right-click the cookie icon in the lower-right of the browser, and then left-click "Clear youtube.com cookies".
Next, left-click the cookie icon, and left-click "Allow youtube.com". Voila!

***Update: CookieSafe - YouTube setting.

Instead of allowing cookies from YouTube, you should either left-click and block YouTube; or, you can right-click and "View exceptions", and add youtube.com as "blocked". The post above was wrong, because when reloading the same youtube URL more than once, FlashGot starts to exhibit strange behavior (6MB video the first time, 3MB video, then 1MB video, during the subsequent reloads of the same page/URL).
