What do I do with files downloaded with no extensions? I couldn't find an option to set file extensions...
I downloaded a video and all it says is "name_videoplayback"
What am I supposed to do with this?

I can put .avi at the end and play it with VLC media player but I can't drag it into vegas (which is what I need it for - movie making/editing), and I can't use Windows Media Encoder to convert the file to .wmv

Simply adding an extension to a file, does not make it be.
VLC is likely ignoring the extension, & determining itself what type of file it is to see if it can play it.
You need to determine what actual file type it is so you can put an appropriate extension onto it.
And from that, then you may see if WME can do anything with it.
Give this,
MediaInfo or this,
GSpot a try & see what they'll tell you about the file.

If you are using VLC, regardless of the extension if its a format it can handle and opens it, then just use the built-in convert feature to make it wmv so you can edit it. In the meantime, more than likely your extension is .flv but that's just an educated guess.

If you have ffmpeg use the command:
That will display all of the video's information in the command prompt
