URL shortening services not blocked from auto redirect?

Post by Charles Belov »

I followed an e-mail link http://bit.ly/FP101-droid2 which opened in my Firefox browser with the current version of NoScript (2.0.1). I expected one of those "NoScript has blocked an automatic redirection" banners, but instead, Firefox went directly to http://tv.adobe.com/watch/flash-platfor ... -motorola/ (the long link for http://bit.ly/FP101-droid2).

This happens whether or not http://tv.adobe.com/ is permitted to run scripts.

HTTP redirects are not blocked by NoScript nor by Firefox, because they hardly can be used for malicious purposes (other than very naive phishing) and disabling them would break most sites with no reason.

What NoScript blocks, under certain circumstances, are <META> refreshes, which are slightly different and can be used for annoying and, sometimes, malicious purposes.
