[Resolved] Can't install 1.10 - restart

Using firefox 3.6.6 on Ubuntu 10.04LTS and NoScript 1.9.9.97.

I am unable to update to 1.10 because after installing and restarting Firefox, Firefox says it still needs to be restarted to install the update. No matter how many times I restart, or even reboot the system, it still won't install.

I followed the Firefox forum advice of renaming extensions.cache/ini/rdf and compatibility.ini so that Firefox would re-create the files from scratch but I still can't install version 1.10.

Suggestions?

Try uninstalling NoScript, or press "Cancel Update" when it says to restart Firefox, then reinstall it.

Thanks for the reply. I tried uninstalling but it put me in a situation like before, that is, is says it will uninstall after restarting but no matter how many times I restart it never uninstalls. Your second suggestion of canceling the install of 1.10 cancels 1.10 but, of course, does not install it so I am back to the older version.

Is there no way to install the 1.10 version?

Regards,

Dan

Could you please try to disable all your other extensions before attempting to install NoScript?
Also retrying to delete the extensions.* files may help.

Thank you for your assistance.

This is what I did:

1. Shutdown Firefox.
2. Renamed extensions.ini, .rdf .cache and compatibility.ini to .old.
3. Started Firefox.
4. Disabled all add-ons (Adblock Plus 1.2.1, NoScript 1.9.9.97, Ubuntu Firefox Modifications 0.9rc2, WOT 20100503).
5. Re-started firefox.
6. Checked about:support and all add-ons showing disabled (enabled=false).
7. Clicked on "Uninstall" for NoScript.
8. Confirmed I wanted to uninstall by clicking on "Do you want to uninstall NoScrpipt? "Uninstall".
9. Clicked on "Restart Firefox".
10. Firefox restarts and then displays "1 new add-on has been installed." with NoScript 1.9.9.97 enabled (all other add-ons are still disabled).

Obviously, this brings me back to where I was before. Namely, I cannot update NoScript (even version 2.0 does not install).

Sounds like you're doing everything correct.
Review here in any case, Unable to install themes or extensions.
Any problems installing any other extensions?

FF report any error or have any log files?

I have the answer to my problem but will address the above suggestion first.

Yes, the other extensions update with no problems.

Now to my solution. At some point, the directory and files that NoScript is installed in had its permissions changed to Root. Under Ubuntu, I don't usually operate as the root user and when I do, I use the "sudo" command. So, it is unclear how the permissions were changed. In any case, since I run Firefox as myself, Ubuntu would not allow write access to the directory (which is required when updating). Thus, even though Firefox was trying to update NoScript, Ubuntu was refusing to do so.

Once I realized the problem was permissions, I reset the directory and files to my username for "Owner" and "Group" and all is now well.

Thank you to everyone who offered suggestions.
