Any safe way to download youtube videos

Post by eradic8 »

I'm wanting to download a youtube video, but I checked the program reviews on video downloader on cnet and it appears it is no longer compatible with the latest versions of firefox, so I checked out some sites that allow you to download by entering the url, only thing is on the first one I looked at it asked me to download a java applet, and when I checked the certificate with Firefox it says it is untrusted so I did not bother. Anyway there are lots more sites like that but I dont know whether they can be trusted. So my question is to anyone who may be able to help, are there any trusted programs or websites that will allow me to download a youtube video?
Noscript has always protected me, but I guess if I want to use one of these sites or a program that allows me to download youtube videos I will need to allow NoScript which I am not keen on doing unless the program or site in question is a trusted one.

There's a 'lil 'ol program by the name of FlashGot (& its FlashGot Media module in particular) which can ferret out Youtube videos, passing the link to your download manager.

I tried to download from that link and NoScript blocked a partial clickjacking attempt.

You shouldn't get any ClearClick warning, unless you erased your noscript.clearClick.exceptions preference.
However you can always use the direct link there.

Giorgio as far as I know I have not erased anything. How do I know if I have erased this? Where do I look in NoScript?

Anyway it might just be that you've put flashgot.net out of your whitelist (I'm realizing right now that the ClearClick exceptions list currently appliesto whitelisted sites only, and it may be a good idea to separate the two lists instead).

I do not have flashgot.net in my whitelist, I guess I must of removed it at sometime. I also have a lot of stuff in my whitelist that is blanked out, is this normal and can I remove them from the whitelist?

They are as follows:

about:
about:addons
about:certerror
about:config
about:home
abot:neterror
about:plugins
about:privatebrowsing
about:session restore
chrome:
resource:

They're internal browser URLs and cannot be removed.
