Personas

Firefox has a feature that allows you to preview a Personas creation before you install it. Just place your cursor over the creation and it temporarily appears on your Firefox browser. Well, when I install NoScript that feature doesn't work. If I disable NoScript that feature doesn't work, and if I uninstall NoScript that feature doesn't work. To fix it I am forced to create a new profile and reinstall all of my other addons, without installing NoScript. Does anybody know why this is happening, and is there a workaround for it?

First time I've seen this problem reported. That feature of personas works for me with NoScript installed. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/personas/

This makes it clear that the problem isn't caused by NoScript per se. Unlike some other extensions, NoScript makes no permanent configuration changes to Firefox which remain after its disabled or uninstalled. It sounds like your problem was either a coincidence or caused by another extension. You ought to be able to install NoScript again without having this problem consequently appear.

If you ever happen to create a new profile again, install the NoScript extension first and verify you can still browse personas before adding a new theme or other extensions or changing any Firefox preferences. If browsing personas stops working while you are making other changes, you'll have a better idea of what broke it for you.

Hope this helps.

Well, this isn't the first time I had this problem from installing NoScript. As far as I can tell it is the only Firefox feature that it interferes with. Perhaps NoScript didn't get along with another addon when it was being installed and created a profile corruption? I have created another profile without NoScirpt, I'll test the that Firefox feature to make sure it is working, and then reinstall NoScript and see what it does.

OK. New profile. Firefox feature working. Added NoScript. Firefox feature still working. Question: The last time I changed a lot of options in NoScript to make it more secure, could that have created the problem?

Based on that hunch I didn't make any changes to the NoScript options just in case that was applicable.

Good question. Persona browsing worked for me in both my 63 extension browsing profile, which has a couple of non-default NoScript options checked, including Embeddings > Apply these restrictions to whitelisted sites too; and my NoScript test profile using only the default options. Since uninstalling NoScript didn't fix your original problem, I'm sure the cause of it was elsewhere.

Try making your NoScript options changes again and see if that affects persona browsing. You can always reset the NoScript options with the Reset button if things go poof again.

By the way, I verified that persona browsing works even if javascript is disabled in Tools > Options > Content pane, i.e. persona browsing doesn't require javascript.

Changed NoScript options to what I had them on in the beginning. That Firefox feature still works. That's just so strange. I guess it was some form of profile corruption, because I can't think of anything else that would have caused that. Thanks for your help. You helped me solved a big mystery on my end. In the past the solution was always, just don't use NoScript. Now I see I didn't have to go that far.
