Slow shut down

Hello, I`ve experienced for quite a long time now, that with nocsript-adon running, it takes a long time for firefox to end the program. It runs for a couple of seconds in the background after ending the firefox. It wasn`t always this way but I don`t remember exactly with witch version it started. Could you fix this because it`s a little bit annoying?
Thank`s for your effords.
Have a good new year!
Stefan

Hi, Stefan. Firefox 3.5.6 persists in Task Manager for a couple of seconds after closing regardless of whether I have NoScript 1.9.9.33 installed. I'm on an old 600MHz PIII, so I never expect anything faster anyhow.
I doubt your issue is caused by NoScript. Do you have any other extensions installed? Disable all of your other extensions except NoScript. Does that make a difference? Could you create a new
profile? What's the shutdown time in a new profile with no extensions installed? Now install just NoScript 1.9.9.33. What's the shutdown time now?

Hi Alan, Yes i am running "adblock plus" too and it`s curious but with both running it this way. Only one of it, then shut sown goes fast. So maybe I have to choose between them. Oh no, I like them both!
Thanks for your reply!
Stefan

For me it takes another second or two to close Fx 3.5.6 if I have both NoScript 1.9.9.33 and Adblock Plus 1.1.2 installed. Are you getting your long shutdown time in a profile which has only NoScript and Adblock Plus installed? Are you sure you can't live with a shutdown time of "a couple of seconds"? Would the
QuickRestart :: Add-ons for Firefox extension help make it bearable for you?

No, I`m not sure!

But it sometimes take as long as 10 seconds or so wich is quite a long time if you just wait to be ready to restart your browser. The problem is: I`m closing firefox and suddely remember I forgot to view something. (To often, oh my.) Now, the extension can`t help because the browser is allready gone but running in backgrund. So I can`t use it.

I see. I doubt you are getting a ten second shutdown in a new test profile that has no changes except installation of NoScript 1.9.9.33 and Adblock Plus 1.1.2. Your number for that should have been shorter than four seconds, unless your system is slower than mine. What are your specs: OS, Processor speed, and RAM?
I assume your ten second number is using your everyday default profile. Since my test time is much smaller, I don't think that shutdown time can be attributed to just NoScript and Adblock Plus. There may be a conflict between them and one of your other extensions. Take a look for other ways that may reduce your shutdown time.

- Save less history. Regardless of what is set in the Firefox UI about remembering browsing history for at least _ days, by default it stores history for 180 days. You can shorten that by changing the

browser.history_expire_days from 180 to something like 90 or lower.

By the way, just to give you a comparison, Fx 3.5.6 with my default profile takes much much longer than ten seconds to close, but it has 61 extensions installed, 2730 bookmarks, 10 thousand history items, and backs up my settings with Bookmark Backup every time I shutdown. I'm used to shutdown taking a while and consider it a worthwhile trade-off for the additional functionality provided by the extensions.

Uninstall Java Quick Starter and Net Framework. Net Framework in particular is known to cause problems.

I`m not fully focused on the best solution in the moment. But I have a workaround, it goes like this: Open taskmanager (with is already running in the back on my pc), go to firefox.exe, rightklick on firefox.exe to terminate. Easy.

Easy, until that method causes some file corruption in your profile, which may cause problems like you're seeing or other problems in the future.

Good luck!

Hi, today there has been updates of both addons. Guess what? FF closes rapidly now.

I think it`s solved. Thank`s to the silent readers out there!

I`m really happy now!
