[UNRELATED] Something strange is going on NS

Post by Ketira »

[font color="#990099"] I don't get it. Yesterday afternoon, NoScript auto-updated to the present stable version. I noticed that a toolbar I usually keep hidden had popped up. Also, if NS picks up on any error messages/bad scripts, the popup toolbar for that would come up too.

Thing is --They didn't used to as I had them set that way. But since then, I can't really change my Persona, nor have everything stay the way I want them to stay --and it all started with NoScript updating. (I get that URL too, at startup now, and can't seem to get rid of it either.) This is why I'm posting here instead of Mozilla's forum - I was doing just fine until this last update.

So just how do I fix this? I did what you suggested in the troubleshooting - except for turning everything else off.

Forgot one way to redo a corrupt installation - uninstall, then reinstall!

...but that didn't work either. Would someone please tell me how to fix this? Otherwise, I'm going to uninstall it - and not recommend it to others! :x

Which toolbar?

You should, otherwise you can't tell for sure it's a NoScript (only) issue.

Another thing you can try is downgrading to previous version from http://noscript.net/feed and check if it actually fixes your issue.

I did both ideas - turned everything else off and downgraded.

Now I'm getting a notice that I should upgrade; I expected that, but every single time I restart? Also, if I set options, they are not saved at all (including the sound byte).

Something's wrong somewhere, and I don't think it's anything but NS this time around.

Why me?

Oh.... forgot to tell y'all about my machine:

Dell Dimension 4500
Pentium 4 running @ 2.39GHz
768M RAM
OS: Windows XP Home, version 2002, XP3 & all updates as of this date installed
I also have in background: ZoneAlarm firewall, avast! AV, Webroot SpySweeper (anti-spyware) & drivers for Epson Stylus CX4200 (scan/copy/print all-in-one)

Sounds like a corrupted profile, you may need http://kb.mozillazine.org/Transferring_ ... ew_profile

BTW, did downgrading fix the original issue?

Good luck!

Have you considered a possible corruption of the extensions?

1. Close Fx,
2. Go to run type: %appdata%
3. Go to mozilla/firefox/profile folder
4. Find your profile and look inside it
5. Delete the following files: extensions.ini, extensions.log, extensions.cache, extensions.rdf
6. Restart Fx
7. Go to addons, click on find updates
8. After it is done updating everything and making them compatible
9. Restart FX

is the problem still there? gone? any difference?

Found the problem - and I offer my apologies.

Looks like this is a Personas bug, not a NoScript bug.... so you may want to re-direct anyone who is using Personas who comes here (thinking it's a NS bug) to Mozilla Labs instead.

Next time, I'm going to turn off things one at a time (keeping NS installed) while looking for bugs!

Again, my apologies; didn't think that this was any other program since it appeared at the same time y'all updated.

Glad you figured it out. I wanted to say that but didn't want it to seem like NS people are just dumping the fault on someone else. Thank you for reporting back, others will benefit.
