Hello . Long time user , first time poster .

I've been using No Script for quite some time without any issues or ever needing to post a question before .

For the past few days I'm unable to use the settings "trusted" or "untrusted" . In the past if I linger my curser over either setting , I was able to highlight and enable either setting . Now suddenly , both settings are greyed out and are not functioning on all web pages I visit . I am still able to choose temp trusted or default , but for instance if I have a page set to temp trusted and I want to change it to be permanantly trusted or for that matter untrusted , it is not possible.
All of my previous trusted trusted or untrusted settings are saved and are still functioning , as far as I can tell . I'm just not able to create new trusted or untrusted settings at all .

I use Firefox with Linux Mint and haven't recently made any security or privacy changes .

Any suggestions on how to correct this would be greatly appreciated .

This is only supposed to happen if you're using Private Browsing (or equivalent). One option would be to change the Firefox setting(s) that are unexpectedly putting you in Private Browsing mode. If you prefer to keep the Private Browsing mode enabled, you can go NoScript Options > Advanced, and check "Enable setting permanent permissions in incognito/private tabs".

Apparantly either my VPN or using "strick tracking protection" ( or both ) was forcing me to use private browsing without me actually making that selection myself .

Checking the "enable setting permanent permissions" box in No Script allowed me to select the trusted and untrusted options .

There is a warning message that reads "Beware : doing this can leak site information" . Is this something I should be concerned about ? Would it be better to use "standard tracking protection" in Firefox and not use private browsing at all ?

Enabling strict tracking protection doesn't have this effect for me.

For most people, no. The warning is only pointing out that

1) Examining a store of your permanent permissions can reveal something about what sites you visit - which is true, but note that if you are not using Firefox Sync, that data doesn't even leave your computer;

2) It is technically possible for a website to detect what resources are blocked and what resources are not blocked, so if you heavily customize what is and isn't blocked in your permanent configuration, it might have potential to make you more fingerprintable (depending on the specifics of the customizations).

NoScript being built into the Tor Browser, it must account for some pretty extreme security and privacy needs. If you had any need to care about stuff at this level, you'd know.

Enabling strict tracking protection does not put me in private browsing mode , however on another pc , I use a vpn as a Firefox add-on and the vpn does automatically control tracking protection , putting me in custom mode with private browsing enabled . This is something I have no control if I want to use the vpn as an add-on . My mistake . I didn't realize it was custom mode and not strict mode .
