image downloading

Can I get Flashgot to operate when I download a single jpeg image. I would like to have the Open With and Save File options available. I tried putting jpeg & jpg into the Downloads File Extensions list in Options (which is normally empty) but that made no difference. I run Free Download Manager, I don't want it to take over the download.

I don't always want to save the image in the "form" that it's downloaded. Often I want to open it with Irfan View, examine it in detail, decide whether I need to add some IPTC data, then decide to where I'll save it, or I might need to mail it to someone so they can process the image. if I don't need to edit the IPTC data then I probably wont want to save it.

Alternatively do you know of an extension that puts a "Load image into your image viewer" item into the context menu.

Thanks - basic config follows

==================================
User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1.3) Gecko/20090824 Firefox/3.5.3 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729)

Hi George

That option is checked, but its not clear to me what it's for. When I right click an image and select Save Image I get the windows Save dialogue, what I'd like is one of the following
  • the FG dialogue with Open with, FG and Save File radio buttons, like I get when I click a link to an archive or exe file.
  • another right click option for Open Image in your image viewer (as defined in windows Folder Options->File Types->JPG->Opens With
I'd prefer the first option because the second would probably mean another extension and I've already got too many.

If I select FG->FG Link Ctrl/F1 from the context menu (instead of Save Image) I go straight to the FDM Add Download Dialogue, I'f I unselect FDM from FG in favour of Browser built in I get a different "where to Save dialogue - not the windows one, a much simpler themed dialogue.

if a Ctrl/F1 went to the Flashgot dialogue like this one http://imagesocket.com/view/Flashgotb29.jpg, with the JPEG or TIFF name and Irfan View then I'd have what I want.

There's a setting for showing the selected download manager in the context menu, if there was a setting to show Open With in the context menu then I'd have exactly what I want.

Phil

FG = Flashgot, FDM = Free Download Manager

Sorry, the setup you're describing is impossible because ctrl+f1 immediately send the link to the default download manager.

OK Giorgio - I didn't expect that it would work from a ctrl+f1. A context menu choice without a shortcut would be fine by me, e.g. there's no short cut for Build Gallery.

Thanks anyway, I'll find another way - cheers Phil

Hi,

just letting y'all know that I found a solution to my requirement - load an image directly into an image viewer, by bypassing or hiding the save image process

1 - install PhotoMe (a windows app, known to run on MACs using Parallels), not a problem for me as I already had it
2 - Go Into PhotoMe Settings and select the relevant or both browser integration options (it does Firefox and IE)
3- For Fx an extension is installed that adds an item to the right click menu for image objects "Open With PhotoMe ..." and a BHO is added into IE to acheive the same ends.
4. Right click an image and select "Open Image in Photome ..."
5. The image is downloaded into ../local settings/temp and PhotMe is started.
6. That's good for me because I'm just as as interested in the metadata as I am in the image itself
6. PhotoMe integrates with your main viewer (ie the one that opens JPEG, TIFF files etc), in my case that's Irfan View
7 - It also hooks up with the Windows & Office image viewers. Each Viewer is represented by a button in PhotMe's toolbar

It sounds long winded, but for me its nearly ideal - I might ask the IV folks if they can copy the PhotoMe approach - to put an "Open Image in Irfan View ..." into your browsers .

Cheers RP
