For whatever reason, I clicked Help | About FF.
And in that dialog is something that says, "Firefox Help".
And for whatever reason, I clicked it, & lo & behold, it LOADS, https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/produ ... =inproduct.
Before it was said (elsewhere):
barbaz wrote: Thu Aug 11, 2022 6:43 pm That one to me is the scariest permission any WebExtension could have

(After having just stopped loading pages (again) for me), my quote (the first, here), the reasoning, dawned on me.

Webextensions are not allowed to do... anything on "mozilla".
Mozilla websites have CSP policy rules that prohibit injecting JavaScript and CSS files in their pages as a security (XSS;cross-site-scripting) measure.
This prevents extensions that want to modify the web page from working properly.
That, to me, is scary.

(Scarier yet, is that it took me till now to realize that - when it should have been like, DUH.)

"Help | About -> Firefox Help"

Sometimes, when you click Firefox Help, it loads (it tries to load):

Code: Select all

https://support.mozilla.org/1/firefox/103.0.2/WINNT/en-US/firefox-help
- which does not load.

Other times, most times, this is where you end up, which does load:

Code: Select all

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/products/firefox?as=u&utm_source=inproduct
I don't know if the first "rolls over" to the second or just what?
But one will load (when nothing else does), & the other does not.

If you repeatedly hit 'Firefox Help', you may see one or the other.

Maybe "https://support.mozilla.org/1/firefox/1 ... refox-help" is a non-thing?
As in if you get that "page", F12 appears to put its expected "box" (if you consider a single, faint line to be a "box") on the "page", but doesn't populate with anything. Actually given that that URL doesn't load - even with NoScript disabled, thinking it is not really there at all, instead being (kind-of) "about:blank"?

"Kind-of". about:blank, followed by F12, does load Developer Tools, as expected.

If I follow that link, I get a HTTP/302 redirect to

Code: Select all

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/products/firefox?as=u&utm_source=inproduct
NoScript cannot have any effect on that site at all if about:config > extensions.webextensions.restrictedDomains lists support.mozilla.org, as it does in its default value.

NoScript cannot have any effect
Right. This was happening regardless of NoScript enabled or not, regardless of pages loading or not (with NoScript enabled, but pages not loading).

Hi, I can't post my reply to this topic (stupid spam protection), so I decided to send you PM. If it works for you, please post it on the forum.

You have to reset and uninstall NoScript, then install it again. Unfortnatelly you have to add all sites permissions again. I did it 10 days ago and... I still didn't restart my Firfox :). Earlier I had to restart FF a few times daily. I hope it will help you.
I'd have to read back through my earlier posts, but I believe at some point, I did start with a new, clean Profile.
Of late, I've been using (FF) Nightly, so I've been restarting (mostly) daily, so far less to run into the issue at present.

Suppose I could fire up a separate instance, mess around with it for a bit, then let it sit... hide the windows so they won't be in the way, revisit it after a week... ?

Yeah, I've this issue for weeks now. At this point it happens multiple times a day, basically. Everything is as described in the first post. It also happens if I let the browser sit for nearly a full day and then return to my computer to resume using it.

I'm on Windows 7, currently with Firefox 105.0.3. I can't quite remember what Firefox version this started with. This is definitely a new-ish development that makes the addon near useless. 'tis weird.

Same problem as in the OP. Appears to be correlated with large numbers of windows and tabs being opened, but that's not a certainty. And leaving the browser open, say overnight, seems to make the problem more likely to occur. FF is also using huge amounts of memory and lots of computes, again when many windows and tabs are open. Of course, this may be unrelated. Problem(s) ongoing for months.
