flash placeholder problem on usopen.org

Post by al_9x »

Click "Watch Live" on usopen.org, a new tab/window opens to which the following refers.

In Fx2, NS1.9.8.72 identifies and blocks two flash objects. The second (in the menu) one is correct and gets a placeholder, clicking on which starts the player:

Code: Select all

[NoScript] Content BLOCKED Forbidden Content -- type: 5, location: http://www.usopen.org/uso/flash/LiveVideoConsolePreloader.swf, origin: http://www.usopen.org/en_US/console/console.html?ts=1251777649484&video=A&syn=&db=false&ref=www.usopen.org/en_US/index.html&alt=, ctx: <HTML Element>, mime: application/x-shockwave-flash, null
The first one makes no sense, it has the url of the root document and no placeholder:

Code: Select all

[NoScript] Content BLOCKED Forbidden Content -- type: 5, location: http://www.usopen.org/en_US/console/console.html?ts=1251777649484&video=A&syn=&db=false&ref=www.usopen.org/en_US/index.html&alt=, origin: http://www.usopen.org/en_US/console/console.html?ts=1251777649484&video=A&syn=&db=false&ref=www.usopen.org/en_US/index.html&alt=, ctx: <HTML Element>, mime: application/x-shockwave-flash, null
In Fx2 the only issue is the incorrect display of the first seemingly spurious flash object in the blocked objects menu. In Fx3.5 it's more serious. Only one flash object is identified, but it is given the wrong url, the same one as the spurious Fx2 object, that of the root document, not LiveVideoConsolePreloader.swf. Consequently activating it does not load the player.

That is curious. But if I Allow usopen.org, ihost.com, and edgesuite.net, the popup window seems to contain the correct content. I never saw any placeholders.

Not sure I'm (noticing) an issue?
Allow usopen.org & edgesuite.net (did not need ihost.com), click the placemarker & the video loads.

SeaMonkey 1.1.18 & SeaMonkey 2.
(Had to disable AdblockPlus in SeaMonkey 1.1.18.)

(I did not specifically check in Blocked Objects or the like.)

I went to usopen.org
temporary allowed usopen.org (ONLY)
everything showed up fine, no issues: (SEE)

Check to see if you have Adblock Plus blocking something or FlashBlock or something else is asserting something.

I had to go to usopen.org's HTML/JavaScript source to understand this, but I can confirm the problem.

First, you must configure NoScript such that Flash objects are not allowed on trusted sites. Second, go to usopen.org and Temp Allow it. Third, click on Watch Live and it will open a popup window with a Flash placeholder. If you then click on the Flash placeholder intending to Temp Allow it, you'll see a dialog with this:

Code: Select all

Temporarily allow http://www.usopen.org/en_US/console/console.html?ts=1251844905478&video=B&syn=&db=false&ref=www.usop
en.org/en_US/index.html&alt=
(<OBJECT>, application/x-shockwave-flash)
As the OP pointed out, this is not the SWF for this content and Temp Allowing this URL does nothing. The first code snippet in the OP is the correct one.

@Alan Baxter & therube The issue is about blocked flash objects, if you do not block flash then obviously you will not see the problem. You need to allow script everywhere and block flash on trusted.

@GµårÐïåñ I don't think you're clicking "Watch Live" and opening the player. The screenshot you posted appears to be from the homepage.

@Georgio Can you comment?

Sorry, you'd be wrong. The screenshot was to highlight that it showed up and which one I clicked on to verify. It worked fine, want the screenshot of the livecast with the court as the background in blue?

I still don't understand what this screenshot is supposed to show. The issue is not with the homepage but the player page, which you open by clicking the blue "Watch Live" button to the right of your capture. Also, as I already mentioned since the problem is with blocked flash objects, you naturally have to block flash to repro it.

In Fx2 you will see a spurious blocked flash object in the menu. In Fx3.5 you will get only one blocked flash object with a placeholder, but it has the the wrong url so activating it does not start the player.

Ok, a better question, you don't understand. I was showing you WHICH once of the feeds at the time I tested, I clicked on to get the next popup containing a live feed player which initially shows up blue court with the loading animation and then quickly, almost instantly jumps to the content. Is that more clear now? When I just got on there, the one in the screenshot was no longer an option, so probably archived.
In Fx2 you will see a spurious blocked flash object in the menu. In Fx3.5 you will get only one blocked flash object with a placeholder, but it has the the wrong url so activating it does not start the player.
I don't use Fx2 or use the one copy we have for debugging, so can't comment there. That would be Tom T., possibly therube and Giorgio's testing environments. As for 3.5.x then I can speak to that running 3.5.2 with the latest 1.9.8.72 release. I don't know if there is a URL handling that is getting lost on your system and select other machines that are confirming the problem (possibly caused by another extension, I suggested ABP, RP or FB) but on mine its running fine so suggests its not a globally affected issue caused by NS.

Hope that is more clear and it helps the debugging process. Let me know if more clarification is needed, I am rushed right now.

What do you mean it's running fine?

1) Are you blocking flash?
2) If you are then you should get a placeholder on the player page, what is its url?
3) What happens when you activate it?

Oh for the love of god, IT WORKS.
1) Are you blocking flash?
Initially and to support your condition, I even enabled blocking on trusted sites which means an additional temporary allow to the media location.
2) If you are then you should get a placeholder on the player page, what is its url?
http://www.usopen.org/en_US/console/con ... .html&alt=
3) What happens when you activate it?
It loads the feed. Hence "it's running fine", anything else will have to wait when I get home.

Well, you did confirm that the placeholder has the wrong url, the correct url of the player flash object is http://www.usopen.org/uso/flash/LiveVid ... loader.swf

I don't know how activating a placeholder with the wrong url can load the player for you. It doesn't for me or Foam Head, and I verified it on a new profile before the first post. Giorgio, please weigh in, and put this thread out of its misery.

They changed the url of the "watch now" button, probably when all the matches are done, you can simulate it by entering the following in the address bar:

Code: Select all

javascript:launchLC('A','','','')
I think there is also something wrong with the placeholders on the home page, but let's deal with this first.

So is the concern you are having that it is giving a placeholder for a "Flash object", yet the "object" is not Flash - at least not at that point?

I looked at it again yesterday evening & saw all kinds of weirdness.

Sometimes the url would show (something) like...

Code: Select all

http://www.usopen.org/en_US/console/console.html?ts=1251...=false&ref=www.usopen.org/en_US/index.html&alt=<OBJECT>,Flash
Sometimes without that alt=... showing.

It is the <OBJECT>,Flash that I want to point out, though not sure if that is the correct/exact wording. (Actually it must have been what Foam Head posted above, "(<OBJECT>, application/x-shockwave-flash)".) Thinking like it is an html page, yet being picked up as if it were Flash.

I did & do have Flash blocked on my end.

Initially, usopen.org & edgesuite.net were all that I needed to play. But then at some point I also needed ihost.com. And at some points even with all that, I couldn't get it to load. (Maybe it was over at that time?)

Dunno why this was so hard for everyone to grasp after I posted the exact steps to reproduce this, but let's get back to the bug...

I quickly reproduced this bug and did an HTML inspection while the placeholder was up. Both the href and title attributes of the placeholder's <a> tag had the console.html URL. The next step is to hook NoScript's Flash placeholder replacement algorithm so you can see what the usopen.org scripts placed there. This will tell us if it's a clear NoScript bug or if we need to debug the usopen.org scripts.
