'Automatic' whitelisting

Post by Guest »

As some of you may know there're shady websites that automatically whitelist themselves with NS5 when scripts are enabled.
Until now with NS10 they just checked the debug checkbox in the options without actually changing anything else (as far as I know).
However starting with 10.1.8.2 they also reset the popup toolbar buttons I just rearranged to my liking.

What can be done to prevent this? (Except staying away from such sites or disabling scripts which completely breaks them, of course.)

Nothing of this is actually possible for a website, AFAIK, unless some not yet reported Firefox bug is being actively exploited.
Have you got any reference, possibly with a technical explanation of what's going on, rather than rumors, to be linked here?

As for settings being changed behind your back, there are two possibilities:
  1. Something is broken in your Firefox profile making WebExtensions storage fail or
  2. You've got some kind of malware in your system actively interfering with your browser settings
