Tremendous slowdown 10.1.7.4 - had to disable

I'm running Firefox 59.0.1 and NoScript 10.1.7.4 on a blazing fast Windows 10 pc with a fast internet connection. The last several days I've started having problems with pages taking forever to load and nothing showing up for minutes in the NoScript dropdown box when I click the NoScript icon. I first suspected my internet connection but it tested fine with several testing services. I then tried using the MS Edge browser because Firefox was stuck and I couldn't continue to work. It was fine - no issues at all with the Edge browser. However I'm a devotee of the security and privacy I get with Firefox and a couple add-ons so I started trying to find the problem with Firefox. The problem would only get better briefly if I closed and restarted Firefox or rebooted the pc. My RAM usage is only in the 10% range and CPU usage is usually lower than 5%. I'm not even making a dent in my SSD storage capacity so it's not machine resources.
As part of my troubleshooting I disabled the NoScript add-on and voila. Everything worked fine.
I do have a number of Firefox tabs open (less than a hundred) but I've routinely had 500-1000 open on older versions of Firefox and NoScript and never ran into anything like this.
Anyone else having this issue?
I hope someone can help. I really don't like doing the heavy internet research I'm doing without having NoScript running.
Thanks in advance for any help you may provide.
