Firefox permissions

Version 10.1.5.7 requires extra permissions:
Download files and read and modify the browser's download history.
Being a paranoid person. I have to question why NoScript requires these permissions. For me Noscript is at the forefront of FireFox, meaning it blocks or allows
loading and or executing images, scripts etc. I see no reason it should have to manage something more to the backend of FirFox. Like being able to modify the download history.
Having said this I have to admit I don't know anything of the inner workings of FireFox.
Unless there is a very good reason NoScript can no longer function without these permissions, I will have to stop using it. I don't really like extensions that have to possibility of changing data.
Can somebody explain why I should allow these permissions?
