Continuing support for pre-57 version?

Post by kukla »

Since I will be running the ESR until its last dying breath (have tried the "Quantum" atrocity, thanks Mozilla, but no thanks) wondering if Giorgio intends to continue supporting the pre-57 versions? I realize that currently all the heavy lifting is directed at the v.10., but if possible would appreciate some kind of continuing support with the XUL one.

And wonder also if I continue to use the current XUL version, the 5.1.7, will I be running any security risks, as things arise over time? Or is that basically good enough to last me out?

NoScript Classic will remain supported until June 2018 - https://noscript.net/getit

Cool, and NS "Classic" much easier to write out than "pre-57 version" :) And definitely much classier than the WE version.

One other thing, what kind of risks would you imagine there might be from using it unsupported with one of the FF forks after 6/18?

The big issue I see there is that the FF forks were never supported -
https://noscript.net/getit wrote:Supported browsers: Firefox, SeaMonkey, Tor Browser (where it is built-in).
Other browsers based on Gecko versions >= 45 might work, but are not tested.
(red color emphasis mine)

And indeed, IIRC there are some FF forks where NoScript is known to be problematic. since we (Giorgio & mods collectively) don't know those FF forks well enough to help troubleshoot them, so NoScript problems specific to those FF forks don't get fixed.

Thanks barbaz, guess I'll cross that bridge when the time comes.
