Pulldown and option screens suddenly blank

Upgraded NS about a week ago and it worked fine until mid morning today. Suddenly my pulldown screen has become blank, showing no specific sites, no permissions, no list at all. The header appears with the options icon and the two clocks for revoke and temp allow, but no list beneath them. When I get the Option screen to open, it's the same thing- headers appear, but no list.

I've done some of the troubleshooting steps: removing and reinstalling NS, disabling all other extensions, removing all the named files in the Firefox profile folder that I could find. Some I couldn't do, such as using the reset button at the bottom of the Options page, because it doesn't appear.

None of the buttons at the top of the pull-down seem to have any effect. The only way I can get to the (blank) Options screen is to open and then close the pull-down, which seems to bring up the Option screen.

That's where I am right now. Any suggestions??

I had 10.1.2 crash a couple of times in the background, creating your symptoms, but not across restarting FF.

Have you tried running FF with a separate profile? (Don't know how the profile manager is started on mac, but that's a good place to start googling)

Have you by any chance accrued a rather large blacklist/white list before?
And interesting that you mention a reset button, I haven't seen such a button in either 10.x versions.

Haven't made a new profile, but I've started FF w/ all extensions and plugins disabled except Noscript. I removed NS and installed a new copy, but haven't done that with FF.

No lengthy whitelist or blacklist. In fact, zero entries unless marking something untrusted automatically blacklists it.

Marking something as untrusted is the definition of blacklisting.
It puts it on a list, so it specifically can be looked up as "don't execute this". Commonly referred to as "a blacklist".

And you don't need to purge and reinstall firefox for a new profile.
Firefox is able to handle multiple profiles separately.

Hence finding out how to start the profile manager on mac os (on windows you would run it from the startmenu with "firefox.exe -p"

I did spend some time this morning rapidly changing settings in the Default and Custom options, in order to get a feel for how it all worked, when settings are retained, etc.

I also have been playing with the "second tier" permissions such as Amazon-images, which comes up only after Amazon is allowed, and google video, which sometimes is offered after YouTube scripts are enabled. I think sometimes I've left some of these with the second tier selection (e.g., Amazon images) granted permission but not the first tier(Amazon.com) It's possible I did something that caused a quirky effect in the newly created NS. Still, I would think reinstalling NS would correct it, no?

Your data is saved in the firefox profile in a sql file somewhere, otherwise performance would go down the drain on each pageload. This data is kept on removing NS.

I haven't seen a solution to safely reset NS data from a firefox profile other than the debug section of the options (which you apparently don't see).
Still, just for confirmation purposes it would be practical to know whether a fresh secondary profile with a newly installed NS in it behaved the same.

And in general I was more talking about "old" settings from maybe a long time run pre NS 10 time. (some users here have very extensive long run lists of what is allowed and what not)

Removed version 3c1, rebooted computer, reinstalled newest 10.1.3

Seems to have restored function.

I am very happy. Thanks to all.
