what have you done?
hi,
I have used no-script for years, since the latest firefox 'upgrade' i have not got a clue how to use no-script, it used to be very easy, now its just a complete mess, and there are no new instructions on how to use it, or if there is, could someone point me in the right direction.
thx

When I set a domain into the custom preset, and check some of the checkmarks, the same checkmarks appear (and are used as rules) for the default preset.
Meaning if I don't want ANY checkmark as default (as to not execute anything before pushing it into trusted), I can not use the custom preset for anything, ever.
This also means all the checkmarks are kind of pointless, and I basically have 3 presets all set to "nothing checked" (untrusted, custom and default), and one with all checked (trusted), which seems completely beside the intent of the interface, but is basically the only thing you can do.

Re: what have you done?
hi,
thanks, that short of helps, still dont like the new version though tbh, its very messy and very confusing, and far to much effort, i dont know what scripts to check or not, im not a dev...at all.
eg, i hate facebook and dont want it to track me, but it seems to be doing so now, never did before, i dont get the green / red lock, even the explanation given in your link is confusing.
i just want to click a lock to allow or not, i dont know what the http green.red thing is at all,
i'm tired, old, and ready to give up on it tbh.
even this forum is hard to use...

NoScript 10 is still in early stages. If you feel tired, old, and ready to give up on the new NoScript in its current state, you can use Firefox 52 ESR with classic NoScript for now. I've written about how to do this and provided the relevant links here - https://forums.informaction.com/viewtop ... 841#p91841

You might want to try an adblocker such as uBlock Origin. The developer for that one started on Chrome, so it's been ported to WebExtensions for a while. Or Adblock Plus should work.getting2old4this wrote: i just want to click a lock to allow or not, i dont know what the http green.red thing is at all,

by scripts i mean the check boxes - script/object/media/frame/font/webgl/fetch/other
just no idea about those things at all....
its seriously not for average users any more.
might have to start using the brave browser, its all done for you.

click on the "default" button.
check if any checkmarks are set.
If the script button is set, every page you did not explicitly put in the "distrusted" preset runs it's scripts. (explaining the tracking).
If you do not want constant sorting, the default preset should disallow EVERYTHING.
And if you always used the "allow all" button before, and never got tracked, that was basically luck on your part because of the way noscript handled page reloads by still only allowing the scripts you saw on the first load, but not the ones that were hidden in scripts themselves.
The green lock/ red lock should not bother you really, it wasn't anything that was in the base interface of the old noscript (especially if all you ever did was "allow all") It's there to make the distinctions between Https and Http of the same site, or treat them equally (which has some implications of what traffic is encrypted or not)
as for your PS:
Treat them as if the "yes/no" of the old system is "all checked, non checked". This is new functionality in theory letting you configure with an even finer comb, the old system only new "all of those/none of those"

Re: what have you done?
thanks,
in the old system i could just click allow or not for any sites apart from the main one im viewing, the new system i have 'untrusted' for facebook on sites other than facebook, yet the lock is green, which implies its 'trusted' and 'allowed', but the main sites im on the lock is red for those...just makes no sense at all, why is the main site a red lock, but other 'tracking' sites eg facebook a green lock?
what is 'fetch', and 'other'
?
thanks for all your help BTW, i do appreciate it, just like i said, im tired, old, and dont want to bother with this hassle / confusion, i just want to browse safely without being tracked or loading dodgy scripts from sites like putlocker etc.

Re: what have you done?
The lock has nothing to do with allowed or disallowed.
The lock is purely about HTTPS and HTTP. Ignore the locks.
What are the checkboxes in "untrusted" set to? If they are not all unchecked, it means they still run scripts.
For the start the comparision to the old system is:
1.
If you didn't allow something in the old system it didn't run anything.
This can be achieved if you click on the default setting, and no checkbox is checked.
This means any entry that is in the "default" preset, is allowed nothing.
2.
In the old system, if you wanted to allow a script source, you clicked allow (or temp allow)
in the new system this is achieved by pushing the "trusted" button (and all checkmarks being checked). for temp allow, you click on the clock to make it visible.
------------------------
Any checkmark you set in either preset applies to all pages in that preset.
Basically the default and the untrusted preset should have NO checkmarks, and the trusted should have all.
Also: I'm personally having major issues with the "custom" preset, but I am trying to get a response on that, but no luck for old me.

Ignore this too. For the start just concern yourself with "all checkboxes on" or "all checkboxes off" , that is basically what the old NS did.what is 'fetch', and 'other'

This is listed as fixed in 10.1.2RC1, which I just installed. I cannot confirm, as I don't use Custom. I upgraded for the temp-all/revoke-temp buttons.Pansa wrote: When I set a domain into the custom preset, and check some of the checkmarks, the same checkmarks appear (and are used as rules) for the default preset.
