How did NoScript disappear?

I use Firefox, and have used it and NoScript for years. My browser has been hijacked, and part of the attack was to remove NoScript. That tells me that NoScript was a threat to the efficacy of the attacker.
I've reinstalled it, but can no longer depend on it until I can reinstall Firefox.
My question is, through what mechanism did my attacker remove NoScript? It doesn't seem to have any feature that protects itself against attack.
Thanks,
H.B.
PS, developers of NoScript need to tell us which script has been blocked when we hear the sound. I have no idea which script I need to allow, especially for videos. There''s just a long list, and I'm supposed to know which to choose?
Please attend to this shortcoming.
