[RESOLVED] Blocking Google News

I have a strange problem with noscript blocking all script [seemingly] on google news page. The menu shows

Code: Select all

Allow [https://news.google.com]
but it's greyed out and does nothing when you click on it. Technically I don't even think that's possible since google.com is already white-listed. I'm not even sure where to start with this issue.

So that's strange. In the options of the Firefox Developer Tools, under the Advanced settings there is a "Disable JavaScript *" which is checked. If I uncheck it the page works fine and noscript gives no warnings. But just as they promise, if you close the developer tools the setting is forgotten and the JavaScript is again blocked and noscript complains with a grayed out Allow.

Nice find. I can confirm that checking that box causes the same symptoms as you have. However, it's never checked by default for me, not even on news.google.com.

Please create a clean profile from scratch. Install only NoScript latest development build, leaving all the defaults.
Does the problem still exist?
If not, what if you then import your NS settings into the clean profile using the Import and Export buttons *on the very bottom* of NS Options?
If that still doesn't reproduce the problem, NoScript is not the culprit... try Standard Diagnostic (leaving NS enabled) to isolate and correct the real cause.

Let us know, thanks.

So, as I think we all expected, it works just fine with a clean profile. I spent a little time adding the same add-ins to the clean profile to see if I could break it, but it continued to be fine.

Ultimately I discovered it was related to the Firefox tab it's self. Google news is one of many tabs that I have saved, and while Firefox is restarted frequently the same tabs are restored when it starts. I found, by accident really, that if I open news.google.com in a new tab it works just fine while the original saved tab continued to be broken. So I have to conclude that Firefox was storing some tab specific setting - maybe it's possible to disable JavaScript per tab or something - and then restoring it every time it reloads. I simple trashed the broken tab and left a new working one in it place. That was most bizarre though.
