[RESOLVED] NoScript problems/bug? on NPO.nl

Post by Kris »

Hello,

First of all, thanks for this great Add-on!

Now to the problem or bug?. The Noscript roll down menu doesn't show all scripts/domains to be allowed or blocked on one specific website: NPO.nl - one of which (not appearing) is needed to view video(live)streams.
Also, on this website, the page doesn't always automatically refresh after changing the permission for Publiekeomroep.nl

(NPO.nl is the website of Dutch national television).

This problem occurs on a Windows 7 computer, with FF latest version (51.0.1) and Noscript latest Version and also the special new/experimental NS version (don't remember what it was called, something wiht an R in the version no.)

In order to watch a video on NPO.nl following has to be allowed: NPO.nl, Publiekeomroep.nl and omroep.nl - that was until last week, since then, additionally: NPOstreaming.nl

Last week the NPO site was changed, since then NPOStreaming.nl needs to be allowed too. It was also at that time when the not automatically refreshing occured first.

Now since yesterday, "NPOstreaming.nl" does no longer appear in the NS roll down/up menu a website/domain to be allowed or not allowed.

The workaround for now is to add it to the permanant permissions list in NS options.

As it is weird that it doesn't show and needs a workaround now, I'm posting it here. It seems to be related to the changes on the NPO site, as I encounterd none such problems on any other website.
The automatic refreshing issue didn't occur anywhere else.

(I also tried whether "npostreaming.nl" would appear after allowing all, (i.e. additionally allowing scorecardresearch.com) but it doesn't.)

Is this a problem that can be fixed within Noscript? If yes, I would be greatful. Probably some more Dutch NS users too. :)

I hope I've proved all info needed to look at/reproduce the issue, which hopefully can be resolved?

Best Regards
Kris

PS: Some time ago a change was made in NS, Dutch version where in the roll down menu "verbieden" (forbid) was changed to "niet toestaan" (not allow). It sounds friendlier, however I sometimes get confused, as it is not clear at a glance what is allowed and not allowed, one has to really read if it says "toestaan" "tijdelijk toestaan" or "niet toestaan", the difference is less obious, and so it happens regularly now that I've clicked the wrong one to allow of not allow... so if I could make a wish, then "verbieden", it's less confusing for some absent minded like me, if there are many to be allowed/not allowed :)

An exact URL to a problematic page would help.

Hello Barbaz,

Thanks for the reply, any video at NPO.nl would do - Here's one example http://www.npo.nl/zondag-met-lubach/05- ... ON_1265484 which isn't geoblocked, so I think you or anyone else should be able to start the video using the workaround, when encountering the same issue as I did.

The first example/thread you mentioned I read before, but didn't comprehend it as being a similar issue. Sorry about that.

The latter example you mentioned as being similar I also read before I posted. To me it seems different. I've been encoutering the same (I think), but not since recently, for months.
As I understand it's that you don't see "googlevideo.com" to be allowed appear in NS. That is, unless you've clicked the play icon in the youtube video, after that it appears and one can allow it with NS and watch the video on youtube. So it seems to me that clicking the play button triggers a connection to googlevideo.com, which then makes it appear in the NS menu.

On NPO.nl no such thing. After pressing the video play icon it shows a message saying "something went wrong with loading the NPO player" (in Dutch). And that would be it, no video to watch. (that is, If you wouldn't know about the workaround and what site to allow). Well you'll probably see for yourself if you follow the link.
(And also the automatic reloading after allowing is an issue here, which I've not encountered on any other website (yet).) Manually reloading the page doesn't solve the problem, is of no influence.)

Best regards,
Kris

No issues on my end with:

-jwpcdn.com
-imasdk.googleapis.com
-jwplayer.com
+omroep.nl
+publiekeomroep.nl
-scorecardresearch.com
+npostreaming.nl
+npo.nl

npostreaming.nl only showed up after allowing some of the other domains.
And jwp*, I'm thinking only showed up after that?
Could be that jwp* would be used if it fell back to Flash.
Pretty sure I'm seeing HTML5. (Though it does say NPO Player, powered by JW Player.)

Hello Barbaz,

Surprised by the list of domains you mentioned. In my menu it only shows NPO.nl, Publiekeomroep.nl, Omroep.nl and Scorecardresearch.com. Nothing else there to be allowed.
And allowing all does not make more domains appear.

When trying another example url on NPO.nl http://www.npo.nl/zondag-met-lubach/22- ... RO_7084410 this one is at least more fun for you or anyone trying to help here (and in English), by the way.

So then the question is, why don't I get to see all the domains.. .?

Addition to the previous: Before yesterday, NPOstreaming.nl appeared only after allowing Omroep.nl. But as I mentioned on my computer not anymore since two days.

I've understood from NPO.nl FAQ that they've switcht from using Flash to a Flash free version last week.

And HTML 5 or JW player.. (blond, female)... I don't know.

Sorry for yet another addition/explanation.
Being surprised by the list of domains - that is not only don't all of them show now, but two days ago and before, they neither all appeared in my menu.
It's always been

NPO.nl,
PubliekeOmroep.nl and
Omroep.nl (in that order to be allowed)
+ scorecardresearch.com (not nessecary or wanted to be allowed).

And then after the recent change on the NPO.nl website, additionally NPOstreaming.nl started to appear and be necessary to allow (only after allowing Omroep.nl and one try to get the player to start).
I hope I've been able to formulate it in English in a comprehensable way. Sorry when it';s not quite understandable what I mean, then please ask.
But as I said, now NPOstreaming is gone, at least on my computer it is.

Best regards,
Kris

Err, Kris, I didn't replied with a list of domains yet. The clue is in the different username and avatar. :)

I'm only seeing this -

Code: Select all

+omroep.nl
+publiekeomroep.nl
+npo.nl
!scorecardresearch.com
Both videos work for me after Temp-Allowing those 3 sites. I'm not seeing npostreaming in the NoScript menu. Don't seem to need it either.

However, npostreaming should be listed in the NoScript menu, because of this XMLHttpRequest -

Code: Select all

http://adaptive.npostreaming.nl/u/npo/status/vodgeodenied/vodgeodenied.ism/vodgeodenied.m3u8

Hello Barbaz and Therube,... and others.

I'm embarrassed... and yes it's confirmed.. somewhat stupid! While reading some more of the other posts... I've now found out what causes NPOstreaming.nl to no longer appear.

I'ts in the (my) recently blocked list. However I do wonder how I've done that, or how that's happened... since I don't have the block option readily available I think (never used it knowingly),
and had to look for where to find a list of blocked sites. (There are a lot more I seem to have blocked recently..)

NPOstreaming.nl seems to be absolutely necessary on my computer to allow to make the video play, if not, no fun here on NPO.nl.

But, so the NPO "bug" seems to be resolved now. Sorry for taking up your time. I'll try to find out how it happens that I've blocked the sites accidently...

Thank you for your time and trying to help. I feel really stupid.. but hey, hope it's OK. :)

Best regards,
Kris

Hello again,

I thouhgt it was best to reply as fast as possible, letting you know what I found out. (besides another confirmation of being absent minded). ;)

What remains is that automatic reloading after allowing publiekeomroep.nl doesn't happen. (But I do not consider that a major problem).

And, personally, I don't understand why the option "Recently blocked sites doesn't always show up in the roll down menu (sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't), and how to unblock them.
Or where else to find the list, and edit it. I've seemed to have unblocked most of recently blocked sites by clicking "herstellen" (repair?/reset?) now, out of maybe 8 or 10, two more to go..
probably one by one in an unpredictable order, so it seems.

And if anyone could tell me how sites are added to the recently blocked list, I would be happy too - as I didn't find out yet how that is done. :) Even though I obviously did about 8 to 10 times. :D

Kristel

Hello Barbaz,

Our posts must have crossed. Thank you for the explanation. That helps, should it occur again...

and makes my day.. :D : At least it's not even worse than I thought with my being somewhat foggy in the head now and then..

'Have a nice evening/good night, or day (depending on where you are)!

Hello Giorgio,

Thank you for letting us know. For your information: Meanwhile I noticed the phenomenom occurs at other, but not all - recently visited, then later revisited - websites too.
Some of the domains to be optionally allowed not appearing, being "hidden" in the recently blocked list. (- where they can be allowed: "(temporarily) all everything from ...")
It doesn't seem to make any difference how domains were blocked for them to "disappear". Individually reblocked after allowing, all reblocked with the taskbar button, or
not having been allowed at all in the first place. I remember now seing a domain in the recently blocked from a website visited without changing anything there with
NS. (domains blocked, and left blocked). It might be that it happens on websites that were closed by closing down FF, not sure yet about that.

Hello,

I've experimented a bit, it looks like it's completely irrelevant by what method a permission was revoked, e.g. manually, or by closing FF, etc.
