[RESOLVED] Can't view video. Strange NoScript pop-up

In trying to view the video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZYOJuKaSFRg I encounter a NoScript pop-up stating "javascript: and data: URIs typed or pasted in the address bar are disabled to prevent social engineering attacks," and the video won't run. What makes the pop-up particularly strange is that I had not typed or pasted anything in the address bar. (I'd reached the video from a link.) I also get a message from Adobe telling me that I have to update Flash. I update Flash as instructed but then when I again try to run the video I get the exact same message. What is the meaning of the NoScript pop-up? Why did it post? How can I run the video?

No problems here.

Do you see the same crap when using the link in your post?
If not, how exactly did you get to that video when these problems occurred?

Thanks, Barbaz.

No, I don't. I still get the update demand from Adobe, together with a new notice from Mozilla that I must allow the out-of-date Flash (just updated!) to work. I am indeed able to view the video if I give Mozilla the go-ahead.

So maybe the only problem is with Adobe, and I'll pursue that.

This is not right. If you're really on Firefox 50, like your user-agent string shows, Youtube should be giving you HTML5 video. i.e. no Flash involved at all, none, zero.

What do you get on Youtube's HTML5 test? https://www.youtube.com/html5

Yeah, it sounds like your Flash is a bit of a mess atm. So let's start by cleaning that up -

1) Download the Flash installer from https://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb ... ndows.html (scroll down to "Still having problems?")

2) Completely quit Firefox

3) Into Windows Control Panel > Programs and Features and completely uninstall Flash.

4) Once that's done, install the Flash you downloaded in (1)

5) Delete the file "pluginreg.dat" from your Firefox profile. It will be automatically rebuilt next time you start Firefox.

6) Assuming you don't have any saved data you care about, go into Flash player settings and delete any stored data for the site.

You should now have a pretty clean install of Flash version 24.0.0.194. Does this fix the Flash problems?

Thanks again, barbaz. I've started to follow your instructions, but I can't find in my profile a file called pluginreg.dat. Can you help me?

That's weird. Are you sure you're in the right folder? Path should be -

Code: Select all

C:\Users\<you>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<xxxxxxxx>.<profilename>
There's another similar folder structure buried in AppData\Local\, but that's just cache type stuff.

Yes, it seems to be that path. I used the Profile Folder Button extension to bring it up. To find the file I used the search box at the upper right (which came up empty).

It'd be directly in that folder. Do you see it if you don't use the search box?

Yes, thanks to you, I've found it.

Now I'm on your last step--and I don't know how to find the Flash player settings.

UPDATE--RESOLVED. I believe I've found them, at https://www.macromedia.com/support/docu ... ger07.html. I clicked "Delete all sites." As far as I can see, the reported problem is gone. Many thanks!

You're welcome! Image

For future reference, you should also be able to change Flash settings from somewhere in the Windows Control Panel. But the online settings manager works too. :)
