I'm running Fx beta 51.0b2 (x64) on Windows 7 pro SP1x64 with all the latest updates.

I cannot open any local .jpg file in Fx using any NoScript version after 2.0.9.14 including today's release. Whether I try "Open File ..." or try to drag it into a blank tab, nothing whatsoever happens.

Also, with any NoScript version after 2.9.5rc33, opening "about:support" I can see the page, but no data.


I've gone back to 2.0.9.14.

Does it happen in a new, clean profile with only NoScript latest development build installed and all defaults?

No, it doesn't happen with a clean profile. And I didn't even have to install the development build; it worked with today's NoScript update release.

I guess I'll have to go through all my other add-ons to see where the conflict is. All I can say is that when I disabled NoScript, everything worked OK. so there must be a conflict somewhere.

I'm also using the latest Red Cats Green Flavor theme.

Do you see any obvious candidates for the problem?

I didn't go through all of the steps, but I disabled my other add-ons (five at a time) until only NoScript was left. No other add-on had any influence on the problems. Whether all were enabled or disabled, only the enabled/disabled status of NoScript made a difference.

The other problem - not being able to open .jpg files in Fx with NoScript 2.9.5.1 enabled - is also interesting. Can you imagine any connection between it and the problem with about:support?

As I've said, the problem with about:support began with Version 2.9.5rc33. I see in your list of revisions, you've often written "MediaSource blocking support (Tor Project)". Could this have anything to do with it?

Did you try also on a clean profile with just NoScript installed and or after NoScript Options>Export + NoScript Options>Reset?

He did try on a clean profile already, and he said it did work there.

JoeG, please export your entire NoScript config from the non-working profile. NoScript Options > Export (the one *on the very bottom*, not the one unique to the Whitelist panel). Repeat the clean profile test, but this time import your exported NoScript config (again, Import button on the very bottom of NoScript Options).

Actually a russian user just gave me by email a possible solution to this sharade:

After autoupdate to NoScript 2.9.5.1 in FireFox ver.50 i can not open my homepage - local html file.
After UNCHECK NoScript Options|Advanced|Allow local links, my homepage - local html file opens good!

Notice that the mentioned option should be completely unrelated to opening file:/// URLs from the browser chrome, so I'm investigating this strange interaction/regression, but in the meanwhile please double check that it is set to its default value (i.e. disabled), because it has very limited (and risky) use cases.

^ I confirm that setting that option does cause exactly the problems JoeG mentioned. Nothing happens when opening a local file, and no information is listed in about:support.
