HI,
I was writing an email when hotmail crashed.

I am using firefox 48.0.1 on my laptop running windows 8
I checked and I can access hotmail in firefox from my mobile (android marshmallow)
I checked and I can access hotmail on my laptop in explorer

I ran firefox on my laptop in safe mode and I could access hotmail

i turned off my add ons in sequnce to see which one was causing the issue and it is Noscript that is blocking me.
I tried to add https://dub131.mail.live.com to the Noscript whitelist but it would not allow me to add it ( the allow button was greyed out)

It seems to be I have to choose between using noscript or using hotmail, and as I have used hotmail for 20 years I would have to choose hotmail, but would very much like to use noscript if there was a way of making it work with hotmail.

Just to clarify, I have been successfully using Noscript on my laptop, with firefos and hotmail until about an hour ago, when it crashed the hotmail page and even on restarting my computer the noscript add on for firefox is blocking access to hotmail so I have had to turn it off ( hotmail.com)

can you please have a look and see what changed to the relationship between the hotmail.com site and noscript at about 1 AM GMT? and see if you could please have a fix.

untill then, noscript has to stay disabled

Thank-you for your reply, however I have checked and my version of firefox (48.0.1) and firefox seems to think this to be the most up to date version for a laptop / desktop. ) checked this using the help button on firefox, about firefox, where it checks to see if your version is up to date

but if I go to the main site for information it advised the latest version for laptop is 48.0.2 https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/4 ... easenotes/

I just cannot seem to find a way tog get it

Download it from the link I posted and manually run the installer?

so I downloaded and installed (upgraded) to 48.0.2 - thank-you for your help with that. The upgrade installed just fine, no problems there,
Sadly it has made no difference to the noscript vs hotmail issue - noscript is still blocking hotmail
I suppose I could always just check my email using internet explorer, I just do not like internet explorer and have concerns about the security of it for checking personal emails.
I am a bit baffled though, I know not many people use hotmail any more, but surely there would be enough people using firefox, windows 8, noscript and hotmail for me not to be the only one?

As a test, if you Allow Scripts Globally (with nothing as Untrusted) does it prevent the crash?

That's because you've already got live.com Allowed.


As a test, create a new, clean Profile, add only NoScript, otherwise leave it & FF at its defaults, then open www.hotmail.com.

Now that you've verified that it works, compare settings between the two Profiles & see if you can figure just what is blocking you (from doing something of which we don't know yet).

This is an issue I have had for a while, it used to work, but a couple of months ago Noscript started blocking access to the hotmail.com login page.

Please bear with me, I am not a tekky.

this is what happens;

I am using the latest version of Noscript
I am using the latest version of firefox
I type "www.hotmail.com" into the browser bar
the web address changes to "https://login.live.com/login.srf?wa=wsi ... &cbcxt=mai"
the page stays blank.

I have tried all my plugins, and the only one affecting this is Noscript (i.e. when I dable noscript and reload the browser and follow the steps above, I get the login page)
I have checked the "whitelist" and live.com is on the list so not sure why Noscript is stopping thepage from loading.

For me this means using the dreaded internet explorer to access my hotmail ( that way I do not need to close all the other windows I have open in firefox twice [once to disable no script, and once to enable it] and so that I can actually do the things I need to from my email, in mozilla and not in internet explorer I need both running seperately now [ i.e. if I have a link in my email I want to follow, I have to open my email in internet explorer and then have mozilla firefox open as well so I can cut and paste the link into firefox rather than using the horrid internet explorer without having to close down my browser and log in over ad over again just for a few links] and it is driving me potty)

so, as you can see it is a total faff.

it used to work just fine, I used to be able to just log in and away I went in firefox with noscript running peacefully in the background.

I have also checked that Noscript is not clashing with other add-ons.
Even if I turn them all off except for Noscript, and have Noscript running on its own, it still blocks me from accessing my my hotmail login page.

Please can someone give me a fix.
