[Resolved] Firefox 46 big problems

Upgrading to Firefox 46 (from 45.0.2) gave me a "NoScript not properly installed, must reinstall" message. After uninstalling, I can't reinstall. No matter how many times I try to install 2.9.0.11 from either Mozilla or from NoScript.net and then restart to install, it is not installed after restarting. And no error messages either. Help!

Does it work in a clean
profile?

I restored my entire laptop from an image backup I took Sunday so now I'm back on Firefox 45.0.2.
I went to addons extensions and did update all and restarted. Now I see that the NoScript extension is version 2.6.9.39rc1 (from last October) and every time I do update all its says to restart to install update for NoScript but after restart NoScript is still the same version.
I noticed a file in ...Firefox\Crash Reports called InstallTime20160407164938 and timestamped from around the time I was doing the updates.
And then under my profile folder in crashes is a file called store.json.mozlz4 from when I was trying the install tests.
I tried uninstalling NoScript, restarting Firefox, and installing again from scratch (latest version from mozilla which is 2.9.0.11). After restarting it isn't installed.
I exited firefox, created a new clean profile called "test", started with that, and tried installing NoScript. Still same problem. But no new crash dump files.

This suggests you may have corruption in your installation of Firefox. Completely uninstall Firefox from Control Panel > Programs & Features (
make sure you opt to keep your existing data), then (since Firefox 45 did work for you before) download
Firefox 45.1.1 ESR (you'll need to select your locale, then get "Firefox Setup 45.1.1.exe"), install that, and start it in a new
profile. Can you install
latest NoScript fine in that situation? If so,
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Transferring_ ... _-_Firefox. If not, I have no other suggestions atm (aside maybe scanning your system for malware per
General Troubleshooting Instructions #2?) given that I don't use Windows, sorry.
(Only once you have things working fully for you should you even try to go back to Firefox 46 / regular release channel Firefox, should you want to do that.)
Let us know, thanks.

I'm having this problem too. Firefox (running on MS Windows 7) upgraded itself to 46.0.1, told me that NoScript was not properly installed, I tried to install it, no apparent error messages, but on restart, NoScript isn't a listed add-on. I uninstalled Firefox completely, deleted everything under %APPDATA%/Mozilla/Firefox, reinstalled Firefox, tried again, and same problem. AdBlock Plus installs just fine.
This appears to be a real problem, not just "malware". (Besies, our company's I.T. department scans the bejeezus out of our machines with McAfee.) Yesterday NoScript worked fine, this morning Firefox 46.0.1 installed, and NoScript stopped working, won't install, and doesn't generate any error messages.

@ulatekh: Thanks for checking that.
Could it be something to do with

I ultimately got NoScript working by copying it from the profile of another computer that had successfully upgraded to Firefox 46 AND was already successfully running the latest NoScript extension.

That is one of the items that was fixed in FF 46.0.1.

Yes but unlike some other addons I use, NoScript wasn't re-signed. Am I misunderstanding something in thinking that's needed as well?

Thanks for reporting your findings and glad you got it resolved

unlike some other addons ... NoScript wasn't re-signed
How do you like that, it wasn't.
I though they were going to go in & resign everything.
But I suppose it may also matter
when a particular extension was signed.
So an old extension, old certificate would be an issue.
But a recent extension may not have been subject to the bug?
Am I misunderstanding something in thinking that's needed as well?
I'm
guessing that resigned would fix things (partially - for the time being).
Or the fix in 46.0.1 would fix things (permanently - until they find the next bug in the system).
So if you had 46.0.1, even an older signed extension would continue to work.
At least that's my thinking.

Working FF 46.0.1 + NoScript 2.9.0.11
And I put in noscript-2.9.0.1rc1 (LAST FF 3.0 version).xpi overtop.
Yet it
is there & installed, seemingly.

So is the solution to get NoScript re-signed?
I'm running Firefox 46.0.1 under Windows 7, and still can't seem to install the latest NoScript (i.e. 2.9.0.11).
I can try copying the installed extension from another Windows 7 machine, as suggested above, but I won't be able to report on whether it worked until tomorrow.

I copied an installed NoScript from another Windows 7 computer, installed it from Tools -> Addons, and it installed properly. But it's version 2.9.0.3, and when I try to upgrade it, it acts like it's succeeded, but remains the old version.
But at least I have some version of NoScript running finally!

When you try to install/upgrade NS, when this issue occurs, do you see anything related in the Browser Console? (Ctrl-Shift-J)
(if you don't know what's related, turn off CSS warnings and post everything else you see)
