Maybe my lack of understanding

Greetings all'
I'm using No Script with a vengeance and find it particularly useful as it gives me the choice of what loads (unseen) on my machine. However I am a member of an organisation which sends out e Mails containing links that members click on to obtain credits, I.e. I receive an e mail, click on the link (of which) I receive a credit. Now; the norm is for me to always use the "open in a new tab" option for this kind of link, this allows for quicker link site loading without actually having to navigate inside the (newly opened) tab.
On this type of link, I never allow any of the page scripts to load in the background - which is not a problem. However, I've recently noticed that even though I continue with the "open in a new tab" option - suddenly a new page will open without warning or command from myself? At the moment, I'm having to use the "Block site" extension to prevent the loading of these rogue pages.
This being the case (my question is), is this a new phenomenon or (perhaps) am I not setting No Script up properly to effectively block this problem?
Please advise.
Regards
Chris
