[UNRELATED] Unable to Install

I am unable to install NoScript. When I try, either from Tools > Add-ons, or by downloading and opening, there are no error messages. Everything looks like it is working. But, when I restart FireFox, it is not installed.

I tried deleting my profile and creating a new one - no change.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling FireFox - no change.

Any ideas? (I am running openSUSE 13.1 and FireFox 45.0, if that makes any difference.)

Will any other extension install?
Where are you getting NoScript from?
What version?
What is its MD5 hash?

Yes, I just installed "Tab Memory Usage" (Mozilla’s Pick of the Month) without issues, from Add-ons Manager > Get Add-ons.

I have tried both Add-ons Manager > Get Add-ons, and downloading from https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... pt.ownsite, and downloading from https://secure.informaction.com/downloa ... .9.0.6.xpi.

therube wrote:What version?
I don't know how to tell the version number of a .xpi file. But, the file names that I have downloaded so far are:
noscript-2.1.9.0.6rc1.xpi
noscript-2.9.0.6rc1.xpi
noscript-2.9.0.6.xpi
noscript_security_suite-2.9.0.3-fx+fn+sm.xpi

Code: Select all

md5sum noscript*
9d9a67d669733fa6cb403116f91d56e5 noscript-2.1.9.0.6rc1.xpi
aa145eb44d9412c67f64687bf4571330 noscript-2.9.0.6rc1.xpi

Code: Select all

aa145eb44d9412c67f64687bf4571330 noscript-2.9.0.6rc1.xpi
Compares to what I have, so the file itself is not the issue.

Running any kind of A/V?
Are you initially starting FF in Safe Mode (& then trying to install the extension)?

Bug 1186980 - Extensions Do Not Install Properly when Browser Initially in Safe Mode

Are you using a distribution build of Firefox or the official Mozilla build?

I am using the FireFox that comes from the openSUSE 13.1 updates (45.0).

Try the official Mozilla build from the link I gave above (use it to create a new profile first, then try there). I've had the weirdest issues specific to distribution builds...

If that does not work, it's possible some profile-related file permissions are messed up. Test: completely quit Firefox, move ~/.mozilla to ~/old_mozilla (DO NOT DELETE UNLESS YOU LIKE DATA LOSS), and try again with the official Firefox build.

I had already renamed my .mozilla directory - no change (other than having a new profile).

I just downloaded the copy of FireFox you referenced, extracted, and ran it (no installation). I was able to install NoScript without any issues, and seems to run fine. Then, I ran the build-in version of FireFox - it shows NoScript is installed, and seems to be working fine.

Then, I used the same process to update another Add-on (LastPass) that was failing to update. Same results - built-in won't update, but downloaded will; then built-in sees new version. I guess there is something wrong with the Add-on install / update in the built-in version....

Good, glad it's working Image
I would recommend you stick with the official build if at all possible, to avoid stuff like this happening in the future.
