seekingalpha

Post by none »

Hi,

when I go to seekingalpha.com, I no longer have the ability to read comments when noscript is enabled. I'm using the latest version of Firefox and when I login to seekingalpha, no comments are displayed. I temporarily allow all scripts that noscript shows but still nothing. If I disable noscript, the comments appear.

Any thoughts?

When this issue occurs, do you see anything related in the Browser Console? (Ctrl-Shift-J)
(if you don't know what's related, turn off CSS warnings and post everything else you see)

Note that seekingalpha just redesigned their website.

Here is a link, you have to register to see comments.

Here is what is in the console:

:? That's the sort of messages we'd expect to see if some scripts were blocked.. except in this case all scripts are allowed..
Can you please post the console messages (as above) with NoScript disabled, for comparison?

With noscript disabled, the comments now appear.

Here is what is in the console now:

I re-enabled noscript, re-allowed all scripts, cleared the console, reloaded the page, still no comments and here is the console:

Maybe some console message is getting cut off? try increasing about:config > devtools.hud.loglimit.console to something bigger, are there any additional noteworthy console messages with NoScript enabled?

If not, it's trial-and-error time. As a test, please disable the following NoScript features, one at a time / only one at once, in this order, until the problem goes away:
1) XSS: NoScript Options > Advanced > XSS, un-check everything
2) ABE: NoScript Options > Advanced > ABE > un-check "Enable ABE"
-> 2a) if that works, try re-enabling ABE and setting about:config > noscript.doNotTrack.enabled to false
3) ClearClick: NoScript Options > Advanced > ClearClick, un-check everything
4) Inclusion type checking: about:config > set noscript.inclusionTypeChecking to false
5) The other XSS filter: about:config > set noscript.xss.checkInclusions to false
6) surrogates: about:config > noscript.surrogate.enabled to false

This message is NoScript related. Scratch what I said above about trial-and-error, we're not there yet.
Are you really sure there is no scripts Forbidden, not even under Untrusted sub-menu?

How do I check this "This message is NoScript related. Scratch what I said above about trial-and-error, we're not there yet.
Are you really sure there is no scripts Forbidden, not even under Untrusted sub-menu?"

If I hit ctrl shift S and bring up the menu, it shows nothing be forbidden.

It wouldn't, on the main menu. There maybe an "Untrusted" sub-menu (if not, go to NoScript Options > Appearance and make sure "Untrusted" is checked). If it's not there at that point, and you've Allowed all scripts you can see on the page, then you don't have anything marked as Untrusted.

Are you running an adblocker or other extension that might block googletagservices.com & the like? NoScript will run its surrogates regardless of how a script is blocked...

Yes, I have other addons that are blocking stuff - ABP, Ghostery, etc.

Guess I should disable all of the other addons and start walking thru every element to see which surrogate is being blocking the comments?

I really appreciate all of your help. You have at least pointed me in the right direction!
