Noscript installed but not working... ?

Post by jrobo »

I am running firefox 39.0 and I've been using Noscript for several years. Today I noticed that I can no longer right-click on various websites and access the Noscript menu. Furthermore, I cannot see it in the Customize section of Firefox. I have confirmed that it is installed correctly, as Noscript does show as installed when I type About: addons in firefox. I am apparently using Noscript 2.6.9.35.

How do I restore full functionality? All sites that require Javascript are disabled and I cannot turn on Javascript without Noscript.

Thanks!

Ensure that JavaScript itself is enabled in the browser.
about:config, filter on 'javascript.enabled', verify that it is set to 'true'.

Disable all extensions except for NoScript, restart FF & test.

OK I did as you suggested.

javascript.enabled shows default, boolean, true.

This is what shows on the Extensions page:

Noscript 2.6.9.35
Block The Ads 7.12 (disabled)
Mini - adblocker 17.14 (disabled)

I restarted Firefox and I still cannot see any Noscript icons, nor can I right click and see Noscript. What would be a next step to try?

Or try outright removing the other extensions? Probably won't make a difference, but there are rare cases when it can...

You can also try backup your profile folder!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, then once that is done, completely quit Firefox & move xulstore.json out of your profile folder (this resets your toolbar customizations), to see if the NS icon comes back somewhere?

Failing that, then try a new profile as already suggested.

Please let us know the results, thanks.

OK guys, I tried the suggestion from barbaz (backup profile, etc) and delete other extensions - this did not resolve the problem.
I then created a new profile, deleted the old one - and still no luck.

What else can I try?

thanks...

Scan your system for malware per General Troubleshooting Instructions #2.

If that doesn't find anything then just uninstall Firefox opting to *delete* your personal data (you can restore it from the profile backup you made before trying my suggestion) & reinstall it from a freshly downloaded installer.
(if you need/want to keep Fx 39.0.3 for some reason: https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org ... es/39.0.3/. but this is NOT RECOMMENDED because old versions of Fx have publicly known security vulnerabilities. better to use latest Fx from https://www.mozilla.org/firefox if at all possible.)
