vpn or proxy support

Naive question??? Can downloads be routed through a vpn or proxy?
If you're using the built-in download manager, any proxy used by Firefox is used for downloads as well.
Otherwise, if you're using an external download manager, you can configure its own proxy in its preferences panel.
