Well, take this as example: http://www.nbastats.net/

I'd like to get only *.xls. and *.txt files

When I click on menu Tools, FlashGot, FlashGot all I get hundreds of small windows asking confirmation
I can avoid this making the download automatic but I'd prefer to filter or select those file *before* I start

How-to?

FlashGot | Options -> Downloads =>

File extensions ~> txt, Add
File extensions ~> xls, Add

(enable) Apply file extension filter to batch downloads too

You may need to adjust the filters, or change the setting altogether, as your needs change.
An actual download manager may help too?
