identifying video ad sources

Post by Kenkoy »

I hope I'll be able to ask this intelligently. Is there a way to identify what sources are providing video ads that appear on certain web sites, in order to block them with NoScript?

I don't mind ads, sometimes they're informative. But lately there have been thumbnail-sized video ads that appear on web sites with extremely loud volume. I can't quickly and easily turn down the volume on the speakers in my monitor. I would prefer to ban those infuriating ads from appearing in the first place. They have a right to advertise to me, but they don't have a right to destroy my speakers.

I have searched for a way to identify their sources, but I don't see any. Is there a way to accomplish this? Thanks for any suggestions you can offer.

NoScript is not an ad blocker. I would suggest you use a proper ad blocking tool such as Adblock Plus. You don't have to use the subscriptions, you can make your own filters https://adblockplus.org/en/filters
You may also be able to block some ads with Policeman.
*Always* check the changelogs BEFORE updating that important software!

Hmm, I was afraid I was lacking certain knowledge here. More than I thought, though. Thanks very much for this info. I'll put it to good use.
